So last night around 1:00am I was sitting outside smoking a ciggarette and I saw a rabbit crossing the road. I usually think nothing of it since there are a lot of wild rabbit around my house but this one looked very big. So I walked over into a decent sized grassy area where a couple of people park there RVs. The rabbit was sitting there. I was able to walk right up to it. After getting a better look at it I relized it was a Mini Lop. After about 10 minutes of me trying to get it, I did. I dont know if someone lost it or they just didnt want it anymore and let it outside. Either way I was angry due to the irresponsibleness of the owner. I cant believe somone would just let a their rabbit go. I was heartbroken. I dont know how long she was outside. Luckly I had an extra cage. She totally killed her bowl of food along with a carrot and drank a nice amount of water from her bottle. Well she is now in a loving home that would never just forget about her. Just thought I would share a story with people that would understand. Here's a picture of the little cutie.

Aw, poor bunny. Well done to you for saving her.

Do you think it's worth checking around the vets in your area to see if anyone has lost a rabbit? We have had two escape artists and even with strong measures they have got out. It can be a case of negligence, but equally it might not be.

It's good though that whatever happens she has a loving home :)

awwww Lucky is cute! and looks totally in peace being back in a cage.

I totally don't understand why people let there bunnies loose (if that is what happend to him / her ???)

P.s. I have a Lucky too :biggrin2:

Moominmoo I called some vets and a couple local pet stores letting them know I found her. Although I am hoping no one calls me about her.

Celestial Wind Our lucky's look pretty similar. Yes she has really calmed down since last night. I was a little worried at first but she seem better now.

Wow, it really is hard to believe that people are so mean and uncaring. This is great that you were outside at the right time to see it when you did.

Good Luck with your new cutie! Keep us updated. ;)

Poor girl. At least she's in a good home now. I wish this didn't happen so much.:(

By the way, it would also be a good idea to call the shelter and let them know you found her and are keeping her. That way if someone comes in looking for a lost rabbit that looks like Lucky, they will know how to get in contact.

For all those who never saw a pic of Jacques (Rainbow bridge 1 yr. ago).. he looked just like Lucky but was a holland lop and was smaller.
Lucky is so lucky to happen to wander in front of a rabbit person.! Life can't get better than that for a bunny! :D

Oooh poor girlie. :(

Some people are so cruel but thank you for rescuing her. :hug2:

She's gonna have a great life with you, such a cutie!

some people i tell you, thank god you found her an not something or someone else

I'm glad you found her and were able to catch her. She is very cute!

Keep us posted :)

Well so far she is doing well. She is eating good. Pellets, timothy, carrots, apples, ect... I have been watching over her behavior and have noticed somethings. She has a nice fat pouch under her neck, she is digging alot, she has pushed a lot of her wood chips in a nice little pile, she is very friendly unless you try and move that pile of wood chips. All those things are leading me to believe she is pregnant. Is that a far assumption? What if one of the male cottontails got to her? Should I worry about the kits? Has this kind of thing ever happened before?

:highfive:

First off, good on you for taking her in. Plenty of people would have just walked on by. I once saw a rabbit that was hit by a car, and it was just lying on the road for days - no one had bothered to stop and check if it was alright, they'd just kept on driving. Lucky is such a ... well, lucky rabbit!

It is definately possible that she is pregnant. Have you taken her to see a vet yet? If not, I highly recommend it, so they can check if she is spayed or not, and basically give her a check up. That behaviour can be motherly behaviour, but, since you don't know her well, you might be mistaken. Good luck!

Rachel.
