Been through the wringer and back since August this year.
My 3 yr old Dutch bun (Peter) started rejecting any hay that I was feeding him, poop size got smaller and smaller. Lots of different brand hay and types were tried and tossed out. He started having gut issues after a big molt and it’s possible he has an obstruction even though xray, blood tests were normal.
I was feeding him Emeraid 4x a day , and metaclopromide, appelin 2x a day which worked for sometime.
I had plenty of sleepless nights and anxiety was off the charts.
Eventually vet said a dental procedure would help as he had small spurs.
I’ve never been more frightened, because i knew there were big risks for bunnies under anesthesia.
Luckily I had some friends who I could share my concerns with and talk to and lots of prayers.
I’m very thankful that my vet who specialise in small pets took really good care of him and he came out of the procedure and he slowly recovered with me watching over him like a mama bun.
His appetite for hay did not return soon after so I wondered if the dental was even needed.
I got some suggestion from a senior vet in the same clinic to try a local hay seller and it was green and didn’t come from another country so it’s fresher.
Now he doesn’t eat main brands such as oxbow, sunseed and APD but I managed to find these 2 sellers who sell green fresh hay (based on my bun’s nose) that I order online.
Then procedure did cost quite a bit but I got some financial help because I never thought he would have dental issues as he always ate his previous hay (Momi brand and oxbow) but he changed all of a sudden. No idea why.
Now the best music I hear is when he chews his hay happily like crunchy potato chips.
I’m glad he is eating happily.
