We were forwarded an add that a friend of oursfound in the Toronto Star. The THS has a loppy girl that wassurrendered to them and then diagnosed with a medical conditon that thevet at THS says leaves her about 3 months to live.:(

As long as this medical condition poses no health threats to ourother kids and we can afford any medical care she mayneed...Tony and I have decided we will apply to adopt her, and give hera home for as long as she is with us.:(

I have emailed them to see if she is still available foradoption...there is no other way to directly contact them, other thanto go to the shelter in person...and it is a little far away seeing asit is in Toronto and we are in Guelph! It is about 3 hoursround trip! So I am waiting to see if they contact me to letus know what is what.

So fingers crossed that someone (if not us) is able to give her a goodhome so she doesn't have to spend her last days in the shelter!:(

I couldn't get the pic to post, so here is a link to her adoption pagewith a pic of her!http://www.torontohumanesociety.com/adopt/petharbor_others.aspThe adoption page doesn't mention any condition so we will have to waittill we are contacted by the THS to find out what is wrong!

Darn it!The pic still won't post! She is on page 3 at the top...her name is Cuddles!:D

Hey - I live down the street from the HumaneSociety. Which bunny is it? I can go in and try tofind out some information about the bunny for you this weekend if youstill haven't heard anything.

Oh, nevermind - just saw that it's Cuddles...

The phone number for the Toronto Humane Society is 416-392-2273

I tried calling but the main line is for animalemergencies only. And while bringing her home is important tome...I don't want to tie up their phone either.:) Theadoption line just has info and tips...no contact...so I did emailsmall animal services...but I will have to wait for a reply!I'll need to know what expenses we are looking at...and what thecondition is too. I won't risk our other kids by bringingsomething contagious into the house! Unless Honeypot wants to run downthe street and tell them to check their email!! LOL:D

I'm not even sure she is still available for adoption...although thewebsite looks like it was updated this morning...so it's going to makeme crazy...but I wait! Hopefully they will give us infowithout making us go all the way there! Idon't minddoing the interview...but it is a lot of driving!:? I have references out the whazzoo so that might help abit! I'd hate for her tohave to spend her lastmonths in the shelter! The sooner we got her here the soonerwe could get her settled and try to developsome sortofbond with her...so she isn't alone.:( And lets behonest...a part of me just plain hopes the vet is a goof and is wrong!:D

Thanks for posting her pic Nadia...I just couldn't get it to work for me!:?

I can definately go in for you if you don't hearfrom them - the problem is I am at work till after they close today andtomorrow, but on the weekend I can go in.

Oh I hope the vet is wrong! Poor angel, it suredoes hurt to see numbered days on them. But in the event that the vetis correct, I want to thank you so very much for giving her a chance tolive in a happy loving home until her time is up.

Ohhhh Nadia! Are you there and back yet? ;)

:DThanks for the offer Nadia...but ifI haven't heard from them by tomorrow at the latest...I will exercisedifferent ways of reaching them. I will contact the adoptioncoordintor here at our HS and see if she can contact the THScoordinator directly. Thank you for the offerthough! If someone goes in this weekend...it'll def beme! LOL I am not known for patience! ;)

I am more than happy to help her!!:) But keep inmind this all hinges on the safety of our other bunns and whether wecan afford to give her the care she would need! If the costsare going to be unmanageable...then we will not beadoptingher. I want to be sure we can give her the care sheneeds..that is why I really need to get the info on her before proceedany further!:)

And who knows...maybe someone already opened their heart and brought her home...:D

Naturestee-I was thinking cancertoo. I can't think of anything else (other than an inoperableabscess) that would give her numbered days. In the pic shelooks fine. So it is a puzzler for sure!

binkies-She has only been at the sheltersince March of this year so the thinness could be stress relatedtoo. Listen to us!;) What is it about waiting thatgives people the heebie jeebies! There is no way to know forsure! Still have fingers crossed for a vet that isn't bunnysavvy as far as diagnosing goes!!;)

Not to get up too many hopes, but a saw a pieceonline recently (can't find it now) about a rab that went thru allsorts of health ordeals & got over them all. You never know.

You have our prayers and love in adopting this sweetheart! :)

I hope everything works out for you to give her a happy home! :)

It would be wonderful if you could take thislittle one and give him/her a comfortable last few months if thatiswhat she has. I had a rabbit who had cancer (thynoma) andwas given three months to live by an experienced rabbit vet at a Vetschool. He had radiation and ended up living a full year quitecomfortably. So, my point is...you never know. Even an experienced doccan be off on the amount of time. I believe it has a lot to to with thebun and their spunk and desire to live. In a nice, comfortable home, rather than a shelter, I think the bun would have a better chance.

P.S. I'm not suggesting radiation. It's very expensive but I wanted togive the example of vet's not always knowing exactly how long. I hopeit works out!! She does look thin.

UPDATE: OK...I didn't receive acall back from the email yesterday...so this morning I phoned andharassed our HS and got the same contact number:?from them...that istheir only contact number too! So our HS girl said to callthe emergency line and try to get redirected...to see if they wouldmind! The girl on the emerg line was very nice andre-directed me to the small animal co-ordinator(who isn't at work until10am or so)and I left a voice mail for her asking for a call back asap!

So here I am waiting---again! LOL;) We are ready to bring her home asap..we just need to know

  • a) is she still available?
  • b) what is her medical condition?
  • c) when canwe do the interview andcome get her?:)

It makes me :)when people out thereare as wonderful as you, I hope you get her and hopefully the vet madea mistake, but its so lovely that you are willing to give her a chance, she is gorgeous

Wow, that's so lovely, wanting to give a loving home to a bunny in desperate need.

It could be something like cancer, it could also be something like anorgan failure, or digestion problems, maybe a weakness in the bloodvessels around the brain (leading to high risk of brain bleeds, etc).

I really hope that things turn out as you want, that she is not a riskto your other buns and that you can give her a loving home for the restof her time.

Keep us updated :)
