    Good clippers for rabbits?

I'd like to hear people's opinions on this as well. From what I've seen of "pet clippers" in stores, they're identical to human clippers (just marked up 100%).

    naturalistic rabbit set up?

Ah, okay. I see what you're saying. I plant grass & let it grow to 1-2" before bringing it in, then rotate after the rabbits mow it down. If it was just regular plants, that wouldn't work. When I grow beans in there, I let the first 2-4 leaves get pretty big, then bring it in -- my doe takes...

    naturalistic rabbit set up?

What's the point of the mesh -- for potential digging? I have two long planters I rotate in & out from the deck. There's just grass in them and whatever random seeds I plant (parsley, cilantro, beans) that rarely get time to grow before being mowed down.

    Afraid of stairs

My doe took to them without flinching. My buck took a year & coaxing to even take a single step. It really depends. Think of it from their point of view: It's a really long way up/down a giant mountain. My buck would walk near the edge & just stare down. He'd watch the doe run down, but wasn't...

    Pimple like bump ?

Are you able to view it under any sort of magnification, like with a loupe? (Or if you have one of those popular computer phones, it'll likely do something similar.)

    Hay feeder

I put lot of hay in litter boxes -- somehow my two house rabbits ended up with six litter boxes throughout the house -- and use smaller wood (pine, I believe) baskets from a local store.

    Suggestions for Subq LR Administration

Update: I'm pretty good with administering fluids now. I don't need to fully burrito her -- she doesn't like her front legs covered/restrained for whatever reason, so as long as they're free, I can inject her without any struggle or restraint at all. She got a lot worse to the point I didn't...

    Rabbit hemorrhagic disease

Midwest here, but my vet started vaccinating once she was comfortable with the safety profile. I got mine vaccinated as soon as I could. They're indoors 24/7, but I like to bring in dandelions & stuff from the yard for them to eat.

House Rabbit Society launches new website (2024)

An older thread, but I'm glad it was bumped -- I missed it the first time around. Their state vet listings look expanded, but the map isn't working for me. (Internet phone users have made web design difficult and everyone tries to do a one-size-fits-all approach... to no one's benefit.)

    Suggestions for Subq LR Administration

I found that holding her upright (at a 45 degree angle) in the burrito makes subq & oral administration much easier. When all of her paws are on solid flooring, she really wants to struggle & turtle & paw out of the burrito. With her upper body raised, I can get one arm under there & operate...

    Suggestions for Subq LR Administration

That definitely works great when the option's available! It's just a bit more challenging when I have to do it myself, but I can usually make things work :) She's perked up a bit as of last night (normal), but... she stayed that way into the morning, and she has been more alert throughout the...

    Suggestions for Subq LR Administration

Thanks! That's helpful. I was able to get 50mL in her last night, but she's not doing well. I'm not sure how much longer she'll hold on. She's not in stasis, but just not eating much (in general, and especially for her), with only sporadic interest in treats; she won't take oral meds in fruit...

    Suggestions for Subq LR Administration

Thanks! I laughed when I saw the OP write this: "When I burrito him he ends up pretending he's a turtle and tries to retract his head." That's exactly what my doe does! I could get to what Watermelons was saying about a strong angled tuck & your pictures, but I need a few inches of space...

    Suggestions for Subq LR Administration

Anyone have suggestions for an 11.5 year old dutch female who needs 60mL of lactated ringer's daily? She has always been a very strong, feisty girl who will behave for strangers in a strange land (vet in vet's office), but not her human in her home. Maybe I'm just not good enough with the...

    Cardboard toilet rolls.

Cardboard has a lot of different forms (it's not well-defined), but the basic stuff should be mostly cellulose, which rabbits can digest. My viewpoint is that rabbits are going to chew stuff -- boxes, flooring, carpet, drywall, trim, plastic, and pretty much everything else in the house is up...

    Stuffed toys

I bought a couple "realistic"-looking stuffed rabbits to see how mine would take to them. They don't seem to care all that much (but I have a bonded pair), though sometimes they'll sit next to them or briefly groom them.

    Bunny grooming

I'm in the same boat. I gave up trying to brush and just groom them by hand & pluck tufts as needed. My doe loves the personal attention. My buck just runs away from me... luckily, he's a good self-groomer :)

    "Wild weed" foraging?

I just avoid next to the sidewalk or road (I'm in a suburb in the US) because people walk dogs that likely eliminate around these areas. Otherwise, I just walk through the yard & pick stuff that looks good, or go to the wooded area out back. I always wash everything well before giving to my...
