my mini lop daisy suddenly doesn't want to eather hay. she eats her pellets and her salads, but won't eather hay. any suggestions? thanks

Be certain to check the hay for freshness and besure there is no mold on it. Some rabbits won't eat hay orcertain types of hay, but it is unusual for them to suddenly stopeating it.

At this point, I wouldn't be too concerned as she is still eating herpellets and salads, so is receiving a balanced diet and plenty of fiber.

You're using Timothy hay I assume?Lenci is very picky about her hay. She picks out the onesthat she wants and set the rest aside.

Bo goes through spells like that.Sometimes it's the type of hay he gets (he's a spoiled bunny and getsoat hay, orchard grass and timothy hay from Oxbow)....

If he's backing off his hay, I cut back on his salad...... ticks him off but he eats his hay! lol....

also, the freshness is a key and the quality of the hay. Bowon't eat any of the cheap stuff now. He gets all oxbow feedand hay. He will pick out any little pieces and throw themout of his cage. He also will eat the best part and leave theends of the hay where it was cut.

I like Oxbow because you get a bag of Timothy and the pieces can be 12 inches long or more of nice, clean grass hay!

I've been having the same problem with Stephienot eating as much hay as I would like. I've got a bag of Oxbow timothywaiting for her when she finishes thestuff I've been usingnow. Does anybody have any experience with oxFORD Meadowshay? I've been checking out their web site and it looksinteresting too.

thanks. her hay is new and smells goodand fresh and isn't moldy. i was mostly worried about thefiber, but it is good to hear she is getting enough. herpellets are timothy, so i'm pretty sure she should be ok.thanks again

Welcome Aboard Cirrustwl,

Canned pumpkin is high in fiber and many rabbits love the taste. Youcan always give your little one a spoonful of that if ever you feelthat you want to get some extra fiber in her. You can freeze what youdon't use.

My Flemish doesn't like hay; my Polish used to love it, but as he's gotten older, he could care less about it.

With a good quality pellet feed, consisting of at least 18% crudefiber, your rabbit is usually good to go. As pointed out earlier, there's enough of fiber in the pellets, but I do like to try toencourage them to eat hay because it's an extra scrapping of theirintestinal system. Sometime if I let the pellets go down and leave themonly hay, they'll eat it then.

I have used the Oxbox meadow hay and my buns seemed to like it. It iscertainly a nice looking hay. They also enjoy the Orchard grass. Rightnow everyone is getting alfalfa with the new babies and Diva being ababy herself.

Oh! These bunnies are driving me crazy;) Today, Basil isn't eating her hay either. Ididn't change the hay -- oat and timothy, but I did just change thepellets. I quess they must really love those new pellets! lol

I think I've figured out thehay. I got them some Oxbow, but Daisy wants tostick with her Kaytee...she has eaten it her entire life, so I guessI'll let her do that and give the others Oxbow. I even triedto mix them and she wouldn't touch them. SHE is a VERYspoiled bunny! LOL

No doubt! You probably could "force" the issue by giving herno other than that you desire, but as you wrote, she is a very spoiledbunny and I believe both you and she enjoy the "spoiling." LOL

Our Chippy has been doing the same thing for the past week or so.

In the morning all the buns get fresh hay, pellets, and water. In theevening I kept finding Chippy's pellets all gone and the hay untouched.Other bunnies are eating everything.

Yesterday I didn't give Chippy any pellets and when I came home all of her hay was gone.

I use Kaytee timothy and Purina Rabbit Chow (Complete Blend)

I'm thinking of changing to Oxbow pellets. After researching thedifferent brands I realized that the Oxbow is Timothy based and allother are alfalfa base. Any one have any input on this?

can you use canned pumpkin instead of pineappleto keep there system "clear" my bun doesnthaveanypooping problems but ido give him pineapple every once in a while

There is some debate as to theusefulness of giving them pineapple juice or fresh pineapple. It wasthought to help break down the mucous that held the hairball together. There have been studies to show this is not the case.

With my recent experience I am giving all of mine a bit of pineapple juice every two weeks.

The canned pumpkin has a lot of fiber in it. It helps to keepthe system moving as well as providing a high fiber source. Mine allget a some canned pumpkin once a week. I have noticed that since doingthis they are passing more hair then they did before I started givingit to them.

I hope this answers your question.

OH, I'm glad I could help.

All of my bunns love the canned pumpkin except Apollo. He hatesit. The others all try to starteating it rightoffthe spoon as I'm trying to put in their bowls.

I can't get Emma and Tucker to take it! Any suggestions on how to get in them?

Buster runs for his plate when I give it to him, but the other two just ignore the plate...

I give it to them oncea week too, although only one eats it!

:monkey::monkey::monkey::mrsthumper:

freddy being the fatboy loves it ofcourse.....but lil Vicky pretended to hate it...i gave up trying tojust let her eat it and take it away like a half hour later, so I justleft it in her cage and it was gone by the morning....still when i giveit to her she will not touch it and gives me the butt, but as soon as ileave and come back a while later its gone .....so maybe she just likebein sneaky or freddys discovered a way to get it out!!

what time do you feed them? maybe if you offer the pumpkin as the firstthing they eat they might scarf if down just outta bein hungry goodluck!! :)

Tried it!

They just don't eat!

Lil' Monkeys! I tried putting some on thier feet, Emma just leaves it there, and Tucker flicks it off!

I tried giving them pinapple juice too, Buster will gobble it up, the other two just leave it!

I can't win!:dunno:

Here is how I got theis Crew to eat it.I top off everybunn's pellets every night. Instead of filling theirbowls with pellets I gave them the pumpkin. They were so hungry-like Istarve them:disgust:- they gobbled it right down. Then I added theirpellets.

Everyone ate it but Apollo. I have tried everything and he flatout won't touch it. I am at a loss as how to get him too eat it. Healso will not let me syringe him pineapple juice either. So I emptiedhis water bottle and put it in there. I watched him for an hour and hedrank it all. Then I cleaned his water bottle and gave him hiswater.

None of the others like the pineapple but as soon as I put themin the Burrito they figure out they are going to get it anyway so if wehurry and drink it we can go play.
