I use Yesterday's News also. The hay rack is above the litter box. I quite like it, I use it for the cats litter boxes sometimes, too.

yes i must buy my bun bun a hay rack tomorrow. i was using one of those wirestrainers you use to drain water off vegies but apparently mybig sisterneed it for cooking would you believe ;)

i'm still waiting for someone to post a reply saying, "oh my bun just wears nappies. i have to change them every hour before they become so full they explode, but it works for me" lol. how cool would it be if someone invented bunny nap naps, complete with tail hole :D

LOL, we just had a dog come in work the other day that wore a newborn sized diaper all the time. The owners even cut a little tail hole out for the dog's tail. Course the dog also had it's nails painted and wore a pretty pink dress (think it was treated more like a kid then a dog?).

ever seen the movie, "best in show" ? it's HILARIOUS, i have a copy on dvd. it's a fake documentary taking the mickey out of people who show their dogs in america. they're like those stage mums for the 5 year old beauty queens, but for dogs. it makes me laugh so much because it's SO true. i feel really sorry for animals who get dressed up by their owners, i often wonder if the dog actually likes it or if feels hot/uncomfortable/freaked out. a blanket jacket in the winter for short haired pets is ok, but people who dress their pets up and carry them around in public while sipping their starbucks coffee and wearing oversized glasses...yeah...makes me do this face - :?lol

Hehehe...never did that with a bunny...but we had a disabled kitty who had no use of his rear legs...went through the "Huggies" like crazy those years... Of course he had a long tail that I'd just flip to the side out the leg hole. Don't know what you'd do with a bunny tail! :bunnybutt:

Oh, and we use Carefresh in the bunny boxes. Have also used aspen pellets (not bad) and Yesterday's News effectively. Wheat and corn based litters have not worked well...the bunnies like to eat them too much.

Yesterday's News. I get the rabbit one I didn't know they sold them in bigger bags deff getting the cat sized one next time :).

That's WONDERFUL...I love how you worded that...can just picture him at the computer, typing, as well as reading a book and having a conversation with someone! :D

As far as what I use in my girls' litterboxes...

We use large kitty litterboxes for my four current girls, and will probablly be using medium kitty litterboxes for my additional three that come in September (or October...depending on the weather). My four current girls are 5lbs, 7lbs, and 9lbs, so their booties need the extra space...whereas the three in September will be 4lbs at the absolute largest. :)

As far as litter: we use wood pellet horse stall bedding from a local tack & feed place, and I put a rather large helping of hay on top...as my babies enjoy multi-tasking as well. :D

Compressed wood pellets. I get mine at my local feed store. It is labled as "small animal bedding", rabbits made the list of animals on the bag :p.

I get my bag of compressed wood pellets for 40lbs for $5. At Petco or PETsMART a 30lbs bag of Yesterday's news would cost me a whopping $15!

Besides, wood pellets work a thousand times better, in my opinion.

Yesterday's News can also be dangerous. I once read in an article online that the paper base used for the pellets is just the left over stuff swept off a floor in a warehouse. I have seen pictures (and seen in person) shards of metal, staples, and plastics found in the peices of Yesterday's News.

I'm not joking....REALLY look around in your bag of YN litter .

That is enough to make me not spend the $15 for a 30lbs bag.

Yes we had that topic on the forum quite awhile ago. Also the dust was mentioned if the bunny digs through it.
So a screen or a cover is not a bad idea.

I've never seen anything like that in any bags that I got:dunnoand I'm prettycareful about checking everything that goes near my bun.

here's the link to the article on foreign objects in Yesterday's news:

http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/yesterdaynews.html

There are photos of the stuff she found!

I used YN when I first brought Nibbles home, but found bits of red and blue plastic in a number of pieces (jagged and large enough to choke on) and went looking for information. This article is what I found - and I haven't used YNB since then. (N. liked to eat it, so there was more than one problem occurring...)

Also, a friend of mine found pieces of copper staples in YN litter pellets....

I just use a litter box, a few layers of newspaper and hay. I change it everyday so I usually don't have the smell. I do notice though that if I go 2 days without changing it there is A LOT of poopy in there, Dori is 100% litter trained, so all her poopy and peepee always go in the litter box, so I can't really go more than 1 1/2 days without changing, lol

Thank you for finding the article! It is quite scary.

I found out about the peices of odd things in YN when I used it in my rat litter boxes. I looked it up and found just that. Not worth the money for something so dangerous!

I have Yesterday's News in the back half and carefresh in the front. It felt like a waste to have the expensive News litter in the front where she doesn't pee, so I put some carefresh so the hay doesn't just collect and go to waste.
