Weight and extra hair

Ok my rabbit weighs 3.3lbs.Is that a healthy weight for a rabbit? It is 1 year old.

It is a lionhead,and the hair on its back of the eye is quitelong tome,itdoesnt cover the eye but i think as the nature of the rabbit,itwont be able to see 360 degrees..i think it would only be able to coverlike 240 degrees

Do you think I should cut it or something?

If the hair is over the eye, I would cut it so it doesn't get into the eye and cause irritation.

It's hard to say what the right weight shouldbe. It really depends on the individual, because it can bedifferent even with members of the same breed. Usually wecheck to see how much you can feel their ribs. You should beable to feel the ribs without too much difficulty, but not so easilythat they feel bony.

Although since some rabbits feel bony even when they have a lot ofextra chub, it's best to have a vet make the decision if you areconcerned.

As long as you're not showing your lionhead - go ahead and cut the hair.

The ideal weight for lionheads is 3 3/4 lbs per the standard with ARBA.However, I have a few does that have gone to 5 pounds (then again -they tend to have 8 babies sometimes).

Your rabbit should be fine.

Hi, my vet advised against cutting my two's hair because it can causeirritation in their eyes - this is because when you cut the hair itmakes it blunt.

Yours looks like it doesnt even need cutting anyway - i'd just leave it for now..

I think what Peg meant was if it seems to begetting in her eyes, cutting it would be fine. If its not botheringher, you can just leave it.

My Mr Tumnus has a bit of an afro right now and some of it hangs in hiseyes a bit. He seems fine with it though. Most bunnies dont like whenpeople come up on them from behind (or straight on, where they cantsee) so its not abnormal that your bunny doesnt like that.

From the pic, she looks to be about the right size for a lionhead, butits hard to tell from a photo. Just be sure to check out our feedingthread and if youre feeding her a healthy diet, she should be fine. AsNaturestee suggested,a vet should be able to help you withany specific weight questions.
