I have a water bottle set up for Orion, but I swear I read that having a water bowl for a rabbit was better. The water bottle is a 16oz bottle and he drinks about 1/3 of it a day (or that is how much leaks out, not sure which, but he is urinating). Just wondered if one type might be better than the other, or if it really doesn't matter.

Heh, Personally I don't like the bottles, cuz of the leaking. I love the bowls! You can get a small one or a huge one. They are easier to fill and easier to clean too!

Here's an example of one that I use:

I have a bigger one that is gray, they clip to the cage so they can't be spilled too!:D

Right now I have a bottle, because Macey keep tipping over her bowls. I'm going to get her a crock that hooks to the cage later.

All my rabbits use water bottles. Ive tried using bowls in the past but they never worked. The buns would just flip them over or fill them with wood chips. I really never had any major problems with them leaking either.

mine all have bottles i find its only at weather extremes that they leak, everytime they have had bowls they end up with shavings and poos in them!!

Mine both have bowls. I personally like bowls because they drink more out of it.... unless your bun drinks a lot from the bottle! :biggrin2:

:hello,
Both Roxie and buddy have bowls. They are both ceramic so they dont spill.

Pros:
*Easy to clean
*Easy to monitor intake
*Easeir for the buns to use
Cons:
*May get a little dirty with dirt, bedding etc.
* You have to refill it
*If not heavy enough it may spill.(DO NOT USE PLASTIC)
Hope this helps!!:big wink:

layla uses a water bottle, i don't find it leaks much and it seems she gets enough out of it.

when i first got her i used a bowl, because that's what she had at the humane society, but after a few days of her tipping it over i used a bottle, and she got the hang of it right away.

Ruby and Millie have a ceramic bowl, they drink way more out of it than they do out ofa bottle and don't ever spill it, unless they trash their hutch and it gets pulled about in the process.;)

I use water bottles most of the time and on occasion water bowls.

If you fill the bottles up completely to the very top, then they won't leak as much. They leak a little bit, until they have created a seal and they quit leaking. Also, if you have the rubber washers in the top, it helps.

I have always used crocks with mine, the heavy duty ceramic ones that even my Flemish have never tipped. I didn't like the bottles, they always leaked for me too, plus I would rather have to fill up the dishes. I don't feel like they are getting fresh water unless I change it every day. And in the winter, a frozen bottle is a lot harder to deal with than a frozen crock.

I use both for Pebble and Ebony, and just a bowl for Maddie. Pebble and Ebony change which they prefer all the time, and I've never had problems with them leaking, so I don't mind providing both. Maddie never used her bottle soI took it away. :)

My Wiggles DESTROYED every single water bottle I put in. Don't ask me how, I have NO idea!!! Lol. All of mine have ceramic bowls even though they still manage to tipthe supposedly 'tip-proof' bowls :pI like ceramic bowls with a glossy interior because they are better for cleaning.

Also, I didn't like that about the bottles. Just like we are not supposed to constantly reuse plastic bottles for our water, I doubt it's very good for the buns as they are really hard to clean and I am sure bacteria can build up in there. However, those who really like the bottles more, you should buy a baby bottle scrub thingy. :)

I've ALWAYS used bottles for my buns. Occasionally, on really really hot days, I'll put in a bowle of water. Belle doesn't knock it over, but she doesn't drink from it because she likes the bottles. And Maggie, knocks it over within ten seconds me refilling it. But they're both indoor rabbits so naturally they don't get to hot because we have fans and whatnot.
