Thanks for all the compliments. Stephie had quitea battle with mites over the winter. Her beautiful coat was not sobeautiful for a while. But after two ivermec shots and a topicaltreatment, she's been doing much better. Her next big project will begetting spayed, hopefully next month.;)

Did you take her tothe vet for the shots or do you treat her yourself? I'm curious aboutlearning more about treatments for mites after what Buck went throughwith Ernestine with the ivermectin paste. Wasn't that what itwas? Do the injections work differently in her system thanthe paste would?

I did take here to the vet for shots. She had two shots 10 daysapart then one topical treatment. The shots were about 20 bucks a pop. There were intitially sores on her back just below her neck. The vettook a culture and said she could see the mites staring right at her inthe scope. The sores have gone now and most of the hair has grownback.:)

Eewwww!!! Creepy little buggers! $40 wouldbe worth it to me in a heartbeat to know that would take care of theproblem.

I hate the uncertainty of "if/when"Sebastian ever gets ill, whether my vet will know what she's doing.:? The vet office I go to is awesome. I've gone there foryears. There is one doc that has a bunny and therefore will treatbunnies.

But the one conversation I had with heronce still left me a bit in doubt as to her "medical" ability...Maybeit was too brief of a conversation. She was definitely a Bunny Mommy. But there were still some things that came up in the conversation aboutdiet and such that almost made me feel like I knew more about thedigestive system than she did... It made me uneasyabout if I ever need her.

I feel very fortunate that in the Pittsburgh areathere are quite a few excellent exotic vets. Although the vet I tookStephie to for the mite treatments are very good, I no longer go therebecause I alway felt "rushed" during Stephie's exams and treatments.I've since found a new vet that is not only knowledgeable, but givesmuch more personal care. Here's a news story on my new vet:

Hi Mambo!

Nothing melts my heart more than a man holding hisrabbit.

I'm so glad you got her through the mites issue.Ican imagine how upsetting it was for bothyou and Stephanie togo through that. She certainly knows who she can count onthrough the tough times.

I'm thinking of changing to him. (I actually talked to himabout spaying the girls, but I canceled when I was thinking I mightbreed Basil.) I'm currently using Dr. Bennet, but I've heard,I think from you, that his spays are much cheaper. However, the people I got Sampson from said they use a vet in Avalon.I'm going to be calling them to see what their rates are, but a coupleof years ago, these people had to have a rabbit spayed and they wereonly charged $35! I have to call and check that out at leastfor spay/neuter purposes.
