Erk??

I had some small pieces of chocolate on my bed that I was going through, mostly dark chocolate, and my bun, Romeo, jumped up, stole a piece, and started to run off!! I got it away from him before he ate too much. That little bugger's got expensive taste, eating my callebaut *grumble grumble*

Is this normal? Can bunnies have small bits of chocolate every once and a while?

It seems that bunnies do have 'sweet tooths' (teeth...lol), so I'm sure that many of them would do exactly as your guy did (cunning rabbit!). I wouldn't recommend voluntarily giving a rabbit chocolate though, as it is definitely not good for them...

It's amazing how sly those little guys can be, isn't it? :D

Chocolate is toxic for rabbits (esp. dark and bitter chocolates). If he ate any of the chocolate, I would get him to the vet asap.

Here is a good thread on it.I would get him to the vet asap.

There is an excellent post by Freddy's Mom in this thread aboutwhy it is poisonous and the effects and symptoms.

Good luck with your bun.

That was last night, and he was fine this morning... Happy and good as ever. he definitely didn't eat enough to do anything, he had about a thumbnail's worth, and very thin.

Such a brat.

Too bad its toxic, I was thinking it could be his new treat!!

Wildfire goes absolutly nuts for granola bars... I discovered this when she was running around the living room, and I sat down on the couch, opened my chocolate chip granola bar, and next thing I know she's climbing all over me trying to get a bite of it!! She went as far as to stick her head in my mouth!! It was very funny. I gave her a little nibble of a piece with no chocolate in it, but now I can't open a granola bar with her in the same room, I have to fend her off with both hands...

LOL, sorry... But it's so true, she goes absolutly bonkers for them. And the funny thing is, she's not a really cuddly bun, she'll lay close to you so you can pet her, but she's very cautious about climbing on you. Well, one granola bar solved that! If you hold it up in the air, she'll attempt to get up on your shoulder to reach...

Silly bunny...:D
