Hi bunny lovers! I was excited toshare this super easy way to remove matts SAFELYfrom thetender skin of your long furred buns.

My 5 month old bun (angora mix female) Fluffy has the occasional'friction matt' she gets mainlybehind her frontlegs. Well last night she was resting in my lap and I decidedto take the opportunity to groom her on the side I could easilyreach. I've tried everything... blunt tip baby sissors.. myprofessional salon shears& even my good clippers andtrimmers.

Then last night I grabbed a comb and one of these blades alone .. andlifted the matt the nearly the size of a silver dollar, and begangently teasing the matt away from the skin. The mattbeganpeeling away from the downy coat of fur underneath near herskin. The fur left didn't look choppy like it willwhen cut with shears...AndIt was quick and painlessfor Fluffy. With a fresh guarded blade. The betterquality the longer they last. Feather brand is the best.

These blades have a protective guard built in, so you fingers and yourbuns skin is more safe from cuts than from clippers (that bog downanyway, and startle the little sweeties ... I don't recommend clippersbtw).. and are WAY safer, aside from the bulbed tip baby sissors Ialsofind useful. I definately recommend this methodof removeing matts to Anyone!

I was so excited that I thought I had to share this 'find' rightaway! I found a picture online so you can see these blades upcloser.

weee lucky you!! mine new bunny frosty god is hefluffy!! i swer hes like your bunnie!! hes a pic of him can you tell mewhat bred yyou think he is!! coz i thought he was a cashmere bun buthes not i had my mum friend round my house wnating to look at hoim andshe said it was a Angora dwaf i was like oh how do you know she said bythe fur and coz shes had rabbits all her life mainly english lops!!anyways when my bun bun ever getins into tangles i will try them!! lol!!

I'm convinced now my girl Fluffy is a mix, because she hasAngoralike long fur .. possiblyGerman Angora (but no fur tipped ears)and Lopears. Her fur would be longer, but it's been clipped oncebefore.

Perhaps like you, I'll never know for sure of her exact breed line...because I didn't find her at a breeders, and she doesn't have papers..she's pet quality. But, her personality is amazing, and I'min Love with her... she is so sweet!

I kinda think your Fluffy looks like what I thought MY Fluffy wasoriginally... a Fuzzy Lop... or an American Fuzzy Lop. That'sif your baby has a flatter face or nose. It looks flatter inthe picture.

Have you weighed your bun lately? And how old do you estimate?

Why yes, I think so! Do these ears lopthough? Her face, body shape and coloring lookidentical. So these are French Angoras? I'll haveto look for more pictures. Thank you for theguidance! :) LA

I've heard from a groomer that there is a local man who breeds Angorasand sells them. I'm trying to track him down to find out ifthat's where my bun comes from.

Amy, I assume you mean the guarded razorblade? I never looked forward to grooming my girl... sheispatient and sweet... but I can only work a section at atime. cause she'll let me know when she's had enough. Thisrazor made the matt a breeze.. and so much safer than an open pair ofsharp sissors. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Also, was it you that I read drove a long ways and waited to pick up along hair rescue rabbit? I recall something aboutthat. Later, after you'd been helping me find outwhat origin of my bun, I realized that it was you who had lost a bunlately. You are so strong... I am so sorry for yourloss.. and yet you are always helping others... that says so much aboutyou... thank you from my heart... LA

Don't think their ears lop (didn't think ofthat) But maybe a French cross, I know how hard it is to findout what a furry bun could be, good luck withyour search

Ya I drove about 45 minutes to a "meeting place" to pick an angora thatsupposedly had such bad mats that it couldnt even groom itself. Wellshe never showed up, thats ok though because now I might be adoptingMerlin, one of Carolyns friends rabbits :D

I did loose a baby bunny recently, but he wasnt the first one I lost. Ihad a litter of 5 bunnies, we decided to keep two of them. One of themwas Brogan, his mom bit off his foot when he was born, and the otherone was Dash we decided to keep him because he was sucha spunky troublemaker :D When Brogan was 7 weeks old he passed away really suddenly, wehave NO idea what happend. And Dash some how became paralized, we triedsteroied but it was too much for his little body. Sadly we lost both ofthem within two weeks of eachother so it has been a very sad month.

Sorry for rambling, I just kinda needed to vent, :)

Many lop breeds carry the recessive angora gene, and occasionally produce wooled offspring.

OhAmy, no appoligies...! :)I do appreciate you putting it all together for me with theupdate. I canhardly beartoimagine what you've been through...:(to have raised em from babies and losetwo... heartbreaking.. I'm so sorry.

And Pam, from the pictures is that what you're leaningto?Given everyone is having a hard time identifyingher lineage..and also her face isn't flat, she still could bea lop breed with the recessive angora gene, just pet quality, right? Would that mean a Fuzzy Lop who looksfacially more angora... ?Given I may never trackdown the breeder, I may never find out for sure, but was askingforimpressions from resident experts, whichyou areone! :)

Here are other pics from the photo thread, if you wanted to take a look.. thanks! :) LA

mid page and to the bottom, there are several upclose pics

I'm thinking that yes -- a lopthat inheritedtheAngora genes rather than an Angora with lopped ears. The coatlooks shorter and softer that those of Angora breeds with no wool ontheir faces. The American Fuzzy Lop is an actual breed, so Ithink the terminology "wooled lop" would be clearer as to what I thinkshe is. It's not unusual for outcrossedLops to havelonger faces, and yours may even have English Lop in the background.

Hey Pam, thank you kindly forthe explanation! AndI'll go with that... "wooled lop" it is.I justwanted some way to describeher best I could, so that'sgreat! I understand better now...! With your ARBAexperiance, it'ssuper to haveyour expertise onthis, though I *greatly* appreciate each and every post and reply of myfellow members:) I'm learning so much at thisforumand your inputhere, along with others(intopic searches)have been so valuable in my questto be as bestinformed a bunny mom as I possiblycan! I'm going to look for these tomorrow at somebeauty supply stores. The new Fuzzy baby has terrible mattsall along his sides and behind his paws, poor thing. I'vetried combing them and clipping them and it's driving mecrazy. If I can't find these, I'm going to have himshaved.

Has anyone found anything else that works for close to the skin matts?

Laura

with theJersey Wooley I got at aShow I have found that ifi use my fingernails close tothe skin it works better thanany sharper instraments ,

I have long nails andits just a bit easier for meto get them with my nails ,maybe its because i have no useof my right thumb and cantsafetly hold onto scizzors ,Cowboy gets them terrible downaround his Parts and its saferto use my hands and nails to gettehm he does tend tosqizzle a bit . ( NOunplanned neuters done byme nope nope nope ) .
