Ouch! I can't imagine that there's no pain medication given to that beautiful bunny! The only medication you've been prescribed for her is Baytril? When Randy was talking about narcotics he was asking if she is on pain meds and what type she's on if any. For a serious operation like that, something like tramal (tramadol) or buprenex (buprenorphine). A less strong pain med commonly given is Metacam (meloxicam). For these medications, I put the brand name first and the name of the compound/generic name in parenthesis.

I hope you don't mind I added "Facial Abscess" to the title to make it more accurate.

The nurse gave her a pain killer before we left the surgery but thats it... We go back on Sunday for a check up. We had to go out this afternoon so locked her in the bedroom ...and have noticed her poo's are small ... what does this mean and could it be a problem if left too long?

No worries and yes it does explain the thread a bit more ))

I would go back before the next appointment and demand a pain med, one of the ones that tonyshuman labeled.

The small poops are most likely related to the fact that she is in pain, and is not eating/drinking as much. Yes that can be a problem. You definitely don't want her to go into stasis, that combined with her current condition could makes things much worse.

To prevent that she should be on pain meds, and also a different medication other than Baytril- some of the ones that other members have mentioned. I would feed her as many vegetables as she likes, push the hay etc. Chewing probably REALLY hurts, so she may prefer softer foods right now. You can try blending her pellets into a mush with water, add a bit of flavour (like fresh mint) and see if she likes that.

I know living in NZ with a rabbit is tough, you guys really don't have much choice in vets there. What you can do, is have your vet do a consult with a vet in North America (some do not charge for consults) and also try and educate the vet by yourself. Easier said than done, but probably worth a shot.

Thanks .. I will take her in tomorrow and get her some pain meds... it is a holiday here today and nothing is open. My partners just gone up to the dairy to see if he can get some bananas as they are her favourite ... will also mush up some food and try her with that... will also turn on the heater for her as it's getting a little chilly at this time of the year and she's feeling a bit cool...
