wow katie how did you keep your cool? if that was me i would have beat her! i dont hit my animals and i never would! i would sue her and make her pay the vet bills! i doubt this was the first time she did it and she needs to be punished because it is NOT OKAY for people to act like that, its animal cruelty and like the vet said most animal abusers dont get prosecuted. althought fraggles was ok on the outside what about the mental trauma? what if fraggles was smaller she might have not been so lucky :(

Benjamin plays in the sweepings, clothing and snow being shovelled. Because he is my baby I am inclined to think that it is adorable and cute. I agree whole heartlly that she had no business hitting an animal, let alone someone elses animal. I am also wondering if no one has taught her how to get along with animals. Could it have been sheer stupidity that had her smacking Fraggles or was it something that she learned along the way from her parents. I would be concerned that her own animals are being hit, possibly even her kids. But my main concern is what is she teaching her children about anger management. The sad part of this is even though you no longer have to deal with her, her children and animals do.

thats right! she is your *child* shes part of your family. his way of thinking is in the best interests of his family and its very heartwarming to read how protective he is, personally i think hes doing the right thing and has every right to still be mad.
i hope fraggles has been milking the situation out of daddy :pet:

I think it would teach the house keeper a bigger lesson to " hit her where it hurts" and that is her pocketbook! Definately no referrals for her and you should encourage your friend who uses her to let her go also. She might think twice before striking a defenseless prey animal when she she can't pay her bills!!

Hard question for all involved. However, if she's not smart enough to outwit a rabbit and keep the dustpan out of reach she's not worthy of employ. I agree reporting her as so many go unreported. I still think back on the two bunnies that were drowned by what I considered to be a sociopath and that after all the outrage, her attorney tried to portray her as a victim and she didn't have to show up in court as she "feared for her well being". Then, the spineless district attorney did next to nothing. Petland is on my "permanent" boycott list too as all they did with the manager was transfer her to another store. What really filled me with outrage was the smiling picture she put on her myspace page holding the two dead rabbits like she'd just done something great. Always have believed in a paper trail to prevent other acts from falling thru the cracks.

Oh! How horrid! Larry what happened with the rabbits?
Katie. How is everyone recooperating? Please give Fraggles a big big hug. ( I read all your posts):privateeyes:ph34r2
Larry quickly do tell!

The yelling and cussing probably scared her more then being smacked on the butt. I wouldn't press charges, because it is a waste of time. There is no proof, only your word against hers and since she is not physically injured and you have no photo or video evidence they can't do anything. I kind of disagree about her possibly abusing her kids because she smacked Fraggles on the butt a bit. I live in a rural area, and the people here just don't view animals very highly, and have no problem kicking their dog in the butt or hitting a cow really hard with a stick, yet they wouldn't lay a finger on their kids. Now, if she was being totally viscious about it and trying to actually cause harm and kicking and smacking the bunny with her full force, I'd be concerned.

Did you tell the housekeeper that you were leaving the rabbit out & was she ok with that? It's hard for us animal lovers to understand, but some people are afraid of animals. And you probably shouldn't have sprung the new situation on her all at once if you never in the past saw her being friendly to Fraggles. If Fraggles WERE a child, you wouldn't have expected the housekeeper to baby sit.
So I would pay her for all but that day & give her a conditional reference saying only for homes with no free-ranging pets. I don't like the idea of punishing her children due to her problem, especially with Christmas coming up.

What a nightmare. Katie, while I do agree that most animal abusers go unnoticed, if you do decide to report her and press charges......chances are the police are just going to brush it aside. Especially since Fraggles wasn't permanently injured (thank goodness!!) they probably won't take it very seriously, sad to say. So I say, just cut your losses, look for a new cleaning person and spread the word around that this lady is not to be trusted.

Thanks everyone. Jason was cooler today and skipped off to work ready to apply more resque ink to the lower backsides of skimpy skirted 19 year olds lol.... Fraggles is also fine and happy with herself today and won't stay off my sofa :) My issue was that this women did need the money and now she has lost two jobs plus a final paycheque on our side. Jason won't be swayed on that. He is not going to pay her and we simply can't give her a reference. When we hired her 4 months ago she said she was fine with Fraggles and was very nice to her. Fraggles kept shoving her head under the girls hand during the interview and she seemed great..... One of the reasons we hired her was because Fraggles liked her so much.

Are you kidding! Jason is Fraggles personal dairy cow and she milks him all day long. Today he bought her baby bok choy "$5 dollars a bunch" I'm sure it tastes just like the regular bok choy.

thats good to hear bless him, glad fraggles is making the most of the situation

Pembrooke does that to me! She always gets annoyed!

My cats and rabbits love to chase after the broom and jump in the dust pan, so I know it can get a little frustrating. However, I prefer to give their bums a little tickle which makes them jump out and zoomie around the room.

What a horrible situation, but thank goodness Fraggles is ok! Her size quite possibly saved injury.

I am with Jason on this wholeheartedly. I know you feel bad that she doesn't have the money now, but that's her own fault. If she really needed the money, she wouldn't have behaved the way she did, and now she has no one but herself to blame for being up a creek. There are consequences for any action you take and you have to be responsible enough to accept them.
