I've got maybe $125 in materials and 15-20 hours in construction

Now did you only use 2x4s or did you use plywood too? How big is it?
It is a great looking hutch, very impressive.

I used 2x6s split in two for most of the framing and tongue n groove bead board for the side panels. Only piece of plywood is under the linoleum for the riser and it is 3/4". The hutch is 6' wide, 4' tall, and 2' deep...the actual rabbit area is 6'x2'x2' with an added second level which is 2'x2'.

The top is inlaid-notched, meaning there are grooves where the tongue and groove boards are built right into the outer frame. This is a prototype...the next one will be a brooder for my baby chicks with electricity built in for heating the area.
