Owners turned her in because they couldn't affoard the C-section the vet recommended.

I had to pull over on the side of the highway on my way home when she went into labor. She delivered 3 puppies, all healthy at this point.

It's been a crazy weekend.

This makes me cry, assuming it's what it appears to be, her owners are to be commended, they must have been devasted, having to do that -- although not sure how she got pregnant to begin with,so they either care deeply or not much at all, but I'm leaning to the former seeing as they did get her into a vet. :(

So much for the C-section. Now what? Is she a Papillon?

Congrats for being a foster grandmother. ;)

sas :biggrin2:

To me, she looks mostly, if not all Papillon. They are common enough here, really. I have twoadopted Papillons (mother & daughter) that were surrendered to Animal Control a little over 2 years ago.

Her coat isn't great, but that could be due to the pregnancy.

I really don't know what to say about the people who surrendered them. They asked to have the litter back if we were able to save them, as they planned on selling them as Christmas puppies. They expressed no interest in having the Mom back.

By the time they left they understood there were no guarantees that we could do anything for the Mom, period, and that by signing them over to AC and waiving the 24 hour hold they were acting in the animals' best interest.

At least they allowed us that much.

They want the babies back so that they can SELL them for Christmas puppies? That is the saddest thing that I have ever heard. I certainly hope they will not be getting the pups back.

:(

They won't be gettingher (or the pups)back.

We hold owner turn ins for 24 hours before adopting out or euthanizing. For 24 hours the animal is in limbo in case the owner has a change of heart - unless it is in dire straits and euthanasia is necessary. Euthanasia before the 24 hour hold is up almost always has to be approved by our contact vet, if notdocumented by the police department.

By waiving the 24 hour hold, they lost immediate and all right to the animal, allowing us the freedom to do with her what we deem inher best interest.

Yeah! no kidding. I wonder if they are pure bred papillon? She sure looks to be.

She's adorable!

yay i am glad they waived the 24 hour hold, woo hoo, they wont be getting the puppies back. Now on a more serious not , how horrible, "we dont want mom back but we want the pupppies so we can make a profit"

Well this is what i have to say about them :banghead:tantrum::censored2::tantrum::censored2::tantrum::censored2::tantrum:

And that, children, is why you don't breed an animal unless you are fully prepared for every eventuality.

Any decent dog breeder will tell you that making money from breeding is extremely rare.

These people seem to think that it's all about making money (not wanting to pay for the C-section, but still wanting a good price for the pups).

Poor Momma Doggy :( She was just a glorified incubator for their future profits. That is so, so sad.

I'm glad she's with you now

All are still doing well this morning. I took her in to the vet yesterday. Her health is actually good though sh is underweight, which can be expected to a point.

She'll be going to the vet again on Wednesday to make sure everything is still good and once a longer car ride is approved and they have a little more age on them I'll be taking them to my Mom to care for until they are weaned.

Once the Mom is ready to be spayed we'll get that done and then we'll look into having the pups fixed before trying to find them adoptive homes.

Because she is a purebreed we want to make sure she is fixed before being adopted out. Unfortunantly Animal Control doesn't have the funds to get animals fixed before adopting out so we want to make sure they go to pet homes, and not to someone who wants to breed them.

those pics made me squeak with joy! what cuties! and what a sad story! i hope they can find a better place to live. but hopefully they'll go fast at the shelter--people pay a lot for purebred animals from the breeder and getting one from the shelter instead is cheaper (not to mention better for the karma)!

What cuties! Just wait until they start barking! It's the funniest thing, they bark and fall on their butts then look around all confused wondering where the noise came from :p

Wow they are real cuties. i always find it surprising how much bare faced cheek some people give without realising how bad they sound :?Imagine asking for the puppies back to sell, i'm surprised they didn't get laughed out of the place!

How long will you have them for? keep us updated with piccies:)

I won't know a whole bunch until later this weekend because they're down at Mom and Dad's, but my Mom loves the Mom and plans on adopting her.

They went to the vet for a health checkup and are doing well.

My brother and his wife are debating on whether or not to adopt one (they'll be adopted out through Animal Control). Stephanie WANTS one. Jason does as well, but with 2 cats, one large dog and a baby on the way I don't know what they'll decide. I'm hoping Stephanie wins out so I can watch one of the puppies grow up.

I'm absolutely undecided. I actually like the Mom but she's spoken for.... so I'm holding out. They'll be fixed before going to new homes - and since they're small I'm sure they'll find homes.

This past year I've lost 3 senior dogs, and one dog in an accident so my heart isn't really into having another canine companion. I have two, Trinket and Kodiac so for now I'm set.

I wouldn't be opposed to having another rabbit, though.
