my little Lulu has a bladder infection,my poor sweet girl has been constantly wet like she is just wetting herself,i knew something was wrong so i took her to the vet at 11:15 this morning,it is now just after 12:00 lunchtime, and we are back home,Lulu was such a good girl while the vet was checking her,the vet gave her an injection of baytril, and i have to give her medicine twice a day for 7days,Lulu should start to feel better within 2 days, the vet also said if it doesn't clear up that i have to take Lulu back and she will do a diabetes test. When Lulu went to the vet last year for her blindness the vet gave her a diabetes test which came back negative, and he was saying that if she had diabetes it would be best to put her to sleep as giving injections to a bunny would be just to stressful for her,and getting the dose right would be just to much.

So im keeping my fingers crossed that she will be better soon,i dont want her to have diabetes,i just couldn't stand to see my little girl suffer

Poor thing :(. I know people feed their rabbitscraisins, so I was wondering if this could help? I know cranberrytablets and juice are good for helping bladder infections in humans.

Hope she gets better quick and doesn't have diabetes :(.

Poor girl. I really hope she doesn'thave diabetes. Rabbits can handle regular shots- that's howabcsess are treated when surgery isn't possible- but getting theinsulin dose right is difficult and can have some very harsh sideeffects. I've seen humans have problems, and at least theycan tell you how they feel.

I've heard dandelion leaves can help with bladder/urine problems. Do you have dandelions there?

Spring,i was watching a health show a while agoand they were talking about cranberries helping humans that suffer withbladder infections, thanks so much for bringing this to my attention, wecan get cranberries in a bag,i think they are dried or something:?imnot sure, but maybe i could get a bag and just give her a few a day orsomething, thanks so much for the idea Spring:)

Naturestee,i also did not know that about dandelion's,i have themgrowing in my lawn,i dont get to see them often as the bunnies munch onmost of it and just leave the bit that they cannot reach lol, thankyouso much as well naturestee for that idea

I am just so worried at the moment,im a terrible worrier,i really hopeshe does not have diabetes, what would i do?how would i find it inmyself to put her to sleep?i would be so shattered that i would justcry like a baby(i know im an over grown baby)but these bunnies mean somuch to me,that making a decision like that is going to be tough onme, but im going to think positive,Lulu is going to be better in a fewdays, she just has to be.

you guys have given me a few ideas that i could try thankyou so much :D

Definently try the cranberries, I had a bladderinfection last year and I drank about 4 gallons of cranberry juice (Iwalked around with a bottle of it all the time) it cleared it up in twodays. I hope its just a random disease and not somethingworse.:pray:prayers for Lulu and you so she will take hermedicine easily.

Your welcome. I'm a huge worrier too, but mosttimes you just worry and the thing you worry about doesn't happen. Thetest for diabetes came back negative before, so hopefully it will comeback negative again! Good luck with Lulu!

Thankyou Krissa,im going out this morning to go buy some cranberries to give to Lulu

thankyou Spring,Lulu is taking her medicine so well that it just makesit so easy to give it to her,Dr Silvia was going to give her a diabetestest yesterday but she didnt want to stress her out,she just wanted tosee if the infection would clear up first and if it doesn't well thenshe will have the test.

Lulu had a diabetes test when i found out she was blind,so Dr tuckagave her a diabetes test to see if that was the cause but it came backnegative

I just thought i would update on what has been going on with Lulu, well she has another bladder infection again, poor girl,i just took her to the vet and came back home empty handed,i had to leave her there for about an hour,Dr Sylvia mentioned diabetes again, while she was giving Lulu the diabetes test my poor little heart was beating so fast, and i was saying in my head 'please come back negative, please come back negative' ohh and it came back normal she does not have diabetes*whew*,but Dr Sylvia mentioned Lulu may have bladder stones,it is one worry after another,so i left her there and she will give her a x ray to see if she has any stones in her bladder,i'm hoping so much that she doesn't,if it is not that,it could be a number of things that is causing the infection, she said i might have to stop giving Lulu pellets all together, that i can handle,i can feed her seperately no problem,i'm hoping so much that everything comes back normal.

OH Cheryl! I got a heart attack when I was skimming through. I thought it said that she did have diabetes then I re-read it and it said did not. Good luck with little Lulu!

You're in my thoughts!

Thanks m.e and Spring, hehe sorry about the heartattack Spring.

I picked up Lulu and was hoping for some answers but Dr Sylvia said she couldn't see anything in Lulu's bladder because it was empty, she needed to have a full bladder for anything to show up,so she said just to give Lulu the antibiotics and wait until it clears and then i can take her back later and she will try again. She also said that Lulu's immune system may be low.

Maybe i have to just change her feeding habits,i just don't know

At least Lulu doesn't have diabetes which was my main concern,i don't think i could really handle having to put her to sleep so soon after Baby dying,it would have shattered me to pieces.

Have you tried giving her some cranberries? Maybe even some fresh ones if you can find them? I've also seen them in tablet form for humans with bladder infections.

Tell us how it ges. I'll be wishing she'll improve! :)

I have been giving her those dried cranberries, you know the one's you all give as treats, but i know they have a lot of sugar in them so i'm pretty worried to give her to much,we do not have fresh cranberries here in Australia(not that i know of anyway)

i will have to find out if we have the tablet kind here, but i don't know if they would be ok for a bunny to take, ohh and we can get cranberry juice here as well,i wonder if that would be ok if i give her a bit, only if she will drink it that is

thanks Spring:)

Hmm. Try going to maybe a health food store? Or petstore? The cranberry mix I got once from the petstore had sun dried the cranberries, so no sugar added. Try a health food store though! Or an organic food store.. do you have thrifty foods where you are? I think they have sun dried cranberries if I remember right..

I'm also wondering, do you have canned cranberries? This mgith work? Or the acid might be taken away for the canning process... I'm not sure!

I hope her infection clears up soon!Get better Lulu!

I will try the health food store tomorrow,it's a little to late now as the shops are closing,i know cranberries are an american product so i may be pushing my luck in finding them, but i will have a look anyway, you just never know,i just might find some

ohh and no we don't have a thrifty foods here,i will also look for the canned cranberries but i doubt we have them here either.

anyway thanks so much Spring:)

I found this informative link that mentioned about those cranberry tablets so i will look in the health food stores to see if we have them here,it also mentioned that cranberry juice is no good,so that is of my list, and it said that they can have vitamin C tablets but i'm going to ask my vet about this first,my vet also said it might be better if i illuminate pellets completely from Lulu's diet and just give her plenty of fresh vegies and plenty of oaten hay which she has anyway.

Pipp started having urinary issues -- spending lots of time in her litter box, leaking on the bed, etc, and her pee wasn't really sludgey, but it wastoo white and thick for my liking. So I switched her to an almost all-veggie diet (and hay, although she won't eat it), mostly the low calcium ones like romaine, bok choy, cilantro, endive, chard, carrots, cauliflower, a little broccoli and only occasionally kale, carrot tops, parsley, etc. I also soaked the veggies in water for awhileand I gave her a seperate water bowl with water and a little apple juice. Her problem cleared right up. (Although boy, did she ever pee a lot!). I still give her a small handful of high fiber, low calcium pellets, tho...

Good luck with Lulu!

Thanks SpringSas and naturestee:)

I don't know if i should stop giving her pellets all together though or should i just cut back on them a bit more,i'm a bit confused as to what to do,i know pellets as bad as they are but they still have the nutrients and vitamins in them that bunnies need,so i was wondering maybe someone can give me a bit of advice as to what would be better

Sas,so that kind of diet has worked well with Pipp,so like do you just give Pipp a handful a day?
