Hey guys just thought I would drop by here. My bunnies go in to get neutered tomorrow...so nervous for them. And advice? Anyone good feed back from gettin their bunny neutered?

Boys are less invasive than girls. Have confidence in your vet and ask questions.
Give them plenty of TLC and they'll pick up on your vibes and affection.

RO library has plenty of advice.

I know you didn't ask for negative feedback but this is helpful to know - for anyone clicking on this thread title: Only once did I regret leaving a cryptorchid boy at a society-recommended DVM. He didn't give the cryptorchid boy pain meds, and the outcome was a heart attack. The vet has earned himself a not-so-professional nickname from many of us in the network. And aside from the impression he gave me prior to the foster boy's neuter, this was the first cryptorchid neuter the vet was doing.

On to the positives! We kept our boys quiet for a few days with limited space, and not one newly-fixed ;) male attempted to overgroom the surgical glue on their pouches. They'll be happy to *not* have hormones driving their temperament.
Yay for no more spraying !!

Bring their fave wet greens to nibble after surgery.

Cheers to you for taking the surgery step with your bunkids. :highfive:

:hearts Sending lots of love to your boys,

I would make sure you get some kind of take home pain medication. Enough for 3-5 days. Talk to them about it when you drop them off for surgery. Some vets think that the shot given before surgery is all that a bunny needs, but that wears off quickly. I certainly wouldn't want to go for a vasectomy and not have any pain medication.

That being said, most bunnies bounce back very quickly from their neuters. All of the ones I've had done are back to normal within a week of the operation.

I have done the spay/neuter thing many times. Do not remove food or water from them (some vets ask that you remove pellets the morning of the surgery...but they should hay and water available at all times). Insist on take homepain meds...and since you might not have discussed this already....get that done before you drop your rabbits off. Some vets will tell you the shot they give prior to surgery is all they need....and if your vet tells you that, I might would rethink having the procedure performed with that vet (if the front desk people tell you that, ask to speak directly with the doctor). That injection is most often either Buprenex (good for 12 hours max) or Butorphenol (good for 2 hours max). Metacam is often prescribed and is better than nothing. I prefer a narcotic (Buprenex) or a narcotic like drug (Tramadol). All of my spay/neuters are eating within hours while on proper pain meds. Neuters usually get 3 days of pain meds. I do not give antibiotics post-op unless there was a pre-existing infection.

hartleybun was neutered back in february - and has been a calm gentlebun ever since. also no spraying:D

like treasured friend's bun he was cryptorchid. as my very bunny vet rarely sees this he took pics to show his students - he specialises in buns and exotics. dont know what hartleybun made of it all but i like to think he helped the next generation of bun savvy vets.

keep us posted:)

I don't have any advice but wanted to let you know I will be thinking about you and your buns. I have been through 4 surgeries with my 2 buns and everything is always fine. So try not to worry to much. Though I know that is a lot easier said then done. Update us tomorrow when you get a chance.

hey guys thank you for all the support and advice I left them off about half an hour..cant stop thinking about them :(. I am going to ask for the pain meds when I go to pick them up as the vet was not there when I arrived early this morning.

I will keep you all posted I should get a call to come get them about half 5 to 7 :D I cant wait to get my bunnies home..I am missing them already :( xx
