Im a nervous bunny mom! Ive only ever had boys neutered and we all know how quickly they bounce back.

Lucy (and my foster girl, Raven) are both being spayed tomorrow. I got some extra Metacam from my vet just in case this guy doesnt give us any. The vet who's doing it does all of them for the shelter for very cheap. Im just so nervous. I hope he does just as good of a job on shelter bunnies.

Im just scared. We'll be gone all day because its an hour away so Im just gonna spend the day in Lansing. We should be home around 6 or so.

Any prayers and advice would be much appreciated ;)

Good luck Lucy and Raven!

Best of wishes to you too, Haley! Don't worry too much! :)

I'll be thinking of you guys tomorrow! Best of wishes for the girls to have an easy spay and recover quickly!

Good luck for tomorrow!

I will be keeping Lucy in my thoughts

Good luck! I hope it all goes well for Lucy and Raven. Best wishes for a safe operation and speedy recovery! :D

Tell us how it goes!
Rachel.

Keeping you and your buns in prayer today....and you, too, Haley. We had our girl, Pumpkin, spayed. It is a longer recovery for the girls. Keeping them warm after is the best thing for their comfort. Take care, and let us know how things go.

:pray:Good luck Haley! I think I'd be the same way as you, as I've only had to deal w/ the boys. That was probably good that you got the Metacam. I did that w/ Driz and he seemed better than Latte and he didn't have any pain meds. Hope to hear an update later!:hug2:

Well, we're home.

Both of the ladies are just chillin' and being low key right now. Ive offered them food and their favorite treats...heres hoping.

Does anyone know if Im supposed to give them Metacam tonight or wait for the first dose until tomorrow? This vet didnt give me the meds, another one did. Im just wondering how long to wait...

Thanks!

Haley, I would say you could start them tonight and then just make sure you do the next dose tomorrow night. Try to keep it24 hours apart (although I've done 22 before and it didn't make a difference). How long do they have to be on it? Driz was on it for 4 days after his surgery (the did his neuter differently; not through the testicles). I'm sure that's closer to a spay.

I would def give it asap. The poor things are probably in pain, and if I remember right, doesn't it takea while to kick in?

Glad to hear you all are home safe and sound. :)

Do you know if the vet that did the spays gave them a shot of painkillers? It's usually called ketoprofin and might appear on the bill. If he gave this, wait till the morning to give metacam.

I'm glad they're ok! Are they eating yet?

I have no clue if he gave them a shot. I was hoping so, thats why I was going to wait on the Metacam. I didnt get a bill bc it gets billed to the shelter. I was apprehensive about going through them, and although it was a lot cheaper, I kinda wish I wouldve just used my own vet.

I went ahead and gave them the pain meds, just in case. Lucy nibbled on some parsely and banana. Raven wont touch anything yet, so I syringed her a little bit of pellet slurry.

Thanks all for the advice. So far, so good. Except i'm having trouble getting them to let me check the incision. I wanted to try Naturestee's idea of getting them to stand up, but theyre both sulking in the corner of their respective pens. I think I'll let them be for tonight and check in the am. I kinda sneaked a peak when I was giving meds and it looked okay...

Glad to hear everything went ok :)

I'm sending lots of healing vibes for both of the girls

Pretty good, I think!

I checked the incision and its a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Both look to be healing well (although I couldnt get as good of a look at Raven's).

Both have eaten a little bit of pellets and parsely. I hope this is a speedy recovery!

Poor Tumnus seems pretty worried about Lucy. He keeps sitting by her cage looking worried. Shes just sitting in the back corner.

Do you guys think it would be okay to let them hang out if shes up and about later today? Its difficult because they are bonded some-what..theres never any aggression but they do like to chase each other. Maybe I could let him in to her pen and just supervise them?
