It wasn't my plan, but hey things happen. Myfriend who owns the rabbit rescue here that I volunteer for called melast night. She says, hey I got in a new dutch female, it can beHarper's girlfriend! Come by tomorrow to see her! So, I went today andthe dutch was beautiful, but gigantic. A good 8-9 pounds, we think shemust be mixed with something. Too big for me to adopt and have adequateroom for, unfortunately.
Then she showed me the new little bunny she had gotten in the daybefore. A little dwarf named Thumper who is 4 years old that someonedecided they didn't want anymore. He's completely blind, and he has abad infected ulcer in his eye that's being treated now. My friend tookhim to the vet and all and got him some eye medicine, which she gave tome. She needed a foster home for him, and it took about 2 seconds ofhim snuggling in my arms for me to go, "Okay, I'll do it!"
So, we load him up, along with his cage and crappy food that came withhim from his previous owner (horrible stuff, with all the dried nuts init. We'll be changing that starting tomorrow!). The cage is wire bottomand rusted, so he's getting a brand new cage as of tomorrow, which I'llintroduce him slowly to. He's never been in any other cage, says hisowner, so anyone have any advice about getting him accustomed to a newcage without scaring him?
He is the most LOVING rabbit I have ever met. You have to say his namebefore you pick him up, or he startles. You also have to make sure all4 feet are against you, or he scares easy. Otherwise, he is SO lovingand just loves to be held and snuggle. What a heart bunny!
I never planned on getting a 3rd rabbit, but I think he's here to stayfolks! I told my friend that it's pretty much a done deal, I couldn'tlet go of him at this point, and I've only had him since noon! Here'ssome pictures below of him. He's 4 years old, and he's not neutered. However, I don't think I am going to put him through the stress of aneuter. He'll never go with any other bunnies, and he's got anincredibly sweet personality. I think we'll just leave his equipmentintact.
BTW, he's also very small, may 3 to 3.5 pounds with very short ears. We're guessing he's a nethie dwarf or a hotot, or a dwarf mix of somesort. His eyes are also red, but damaged with scarring and white spotson them, which you can't see good in the pictures. There's also only apicture of his left eye. The right eye has the ulcer, and he keeps itclosed most of the time, but opens it every now and then.
