For the past several years I've had to pay back taxes at the end of the year, rather than get anything back. (Makes me kinda :X too, since I'm taxed at 25% of my income.) And last year was even worse, as pay and benefits at work made a mistake and wasn't taking enough off me in taxes, so at the end of the year I wound up with a rather large chunk of money that had to be paid back to the gov't. Since I live in Canada, there's no deduction for owning a house, so that's out...but I did request they take more off me in taxes, so this year I'm crossing my fingers that at the very least, I won't have to pay in.

If, for some wild reason, I did get money back, it would go toward paying my bills. Boring, yeah...but I'd love to be debt-free at some point...

I'm still trying to figure out a way for rabbits to generate income, though...:biggrin2:

Spend? Hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't got any money back in years. I think last year I owed about $2700.

I think I can concur with that. I don't have human kids, and I don't have a mortgage, so I'm pretty SOL on tax refunds.
Sounds like you guys should get some Mutual Funds started!! Up here in Canada we can put our Mutual Funds into an RRSP and get a tax BREAK :)

Well I have to change myne we will only get about 800 back.

That means the car os only getting brakes and a tune up and then everything else will go to savings for a emergency. I will just do storm insurance another in feb.

And someone else will have to buy the twins High Chairs

You can check on the irs website about how much you will get back

well we will be going to get our taxes done on Wed !!!!! and let me tell you i have my income tax spent and then some, lol. We will just have to prioritize what we need and want the most and use the money for that first. I get to add a camera to my list, mine broke this weekend, and with four kids i cant not have a camera.

I dream of new windows forour house...
If I get enough back I will buy a skylight for the garage...I'll have to put it in myself...but it'll be worth it!:D

At least this year I can claim allmy medical expenses...we had to pay for my spine surgery out of pocket...so I can get about 15% of the total back for taxes...what the heck...anything the gov't decides to give back is nice! lol:biggrin2:

Danielle:)

We got windows about 2 years ago and boy oh boy it made a HUGE difference in my heating and cooling, i could see it on the temp that i kept my house, i didnt have to have it so cold in the summer and up so high in the winter.

Our house still has the plate glass slider windows it came with in the 70's!
We had the money to do the windows a few years ago...but we could do our one huge 12 foot x 6 foot window in the front or all the rest of the windows in the house...we did the big front window since it was the worst of the bunch...costover $3000 but it was definately worth it! It made a huge difference in our front room...before it was almost unlivable!

Well, if I am ever able to actually file my tax return, I am going to use my portion to pay down my credit card. Trying to think of one "fun" thing for me, too. Maybe a new (better) camera? I was going to put it towards LASIK surgery so I can get rid of my glasses, but I didn't get in for a consultation before the end of the year, and didn't set extra money aside in my benefit withholding....So it will have to wait until next year.

Husband and I will be getting the new homebuyers tax credit (the bigger one that was available last year), so we'll be putting most of that in savings, plus an extra mortgage payment (made one extra last year, too). Unfortunately, I have heard it takes an extra 2-3 months to process that credit. Grr. Want now!

We were fortunate that our house already had mostly-new everything. Windows, furnace, water heater, roof,....... So we don't have to spend anything on that. I don't think there are any tax-deductible upgrades that we could actually do! I do want to get CFL lights for our living room. It's the only room that doesn't have them, because there are 8 recessed lights, and the CFL bulbs to fit are $10 each! We already replaced the old refrigerator, the new one is bigger, but more energy efficient and keeps food good longer. Gotta love technology!

Hmmm lets see:
Bedroom sets for the kiddos, maybe a new bed for us
Vet care for our current two dogs and a new third dog.
Rat cage

that's all we have so far...

woo hoo well i got mine done and got what i was hoping originally, but there is a dilema of course. there are something that i have to do with it defintely , like Sam (my dog) needs his teeth done and a lump removed, i have to pay back my mom for the money she lent me for Buzzie, i will put some away for Christmas, and then there is the township tax i have to pay, then with what is left i can either do all the other little things i wanted to do with it or pay my credit card down? the little things included getting insurance on the rabbits, putting away money for vacation and birthday party i am having this summer, and putting money away for half my sons preschool tuition since it went up. By paying the credit card off i will obviously free up money from what i am paying monthly which i could always use to put away for those things , plus i could put away any overtime my hubby gets, and then i wont be paying preschool tuition from May till august so there is always that i can put away towards my sons tuition next year? decisions, decisions, lol

Either use it all on the credit card, or do one of the small things, and the rest on the credit card. That's what I'm doing.

that is what i am leaning more towards, getting out from that debt. There are things that i have to do with it first, like surgery for my dog and money away for Christmas, and money back to my mom but i think i will pay the CC off as much as i can with what is left, which should be most of it.

ok income tax came in,I got a camera as mine had broke earlier this month, and i am very satisfied with it. I now am getting ready to make an appointment for my dog for blood work, then my hubby has to get some parts for his truck, then i will pay off as much on the credit card as i can. woo hoo, lets hope i dont spend it all in the mean time, lol
