:sigh

I have some bad news.

Well, I was sort of suspicious of Pepsi because she was all flopped out all afternoon (Got up when I entered the room) and seemed to be not herself. I went down there an hour or so ago to give her some cuddles and her belly felt odd, kind of squishy and she was leaning her side against my hand (First sign somethings wrong). Well, I offered her some dried papaya, but no luck.

I offered her some romain lettuce, she tore a corner off and left it alone afterwards. She's not haunched over now, she's still moving but very slowly and caustiously. I gave her a nice towel to sit on for her belly, and she was investigating it and scrunching it up and biting it so she still is interested in play.

I suspect she has some gas, but going to wait until tomorrow until I give her some simthecone. I heard a nice big growl from her tummy, but she's the kind of bun that can have her off days so I'm waiting until tomorrow morning.

Her appetite last night andthis afternoon was good. She ate all her vegetables, most of her pellets (She left a small bit of halfbit ones), ate most of her hay. I think her tummy upset may be caused by theleaf lettuce I've been giving her recently fromleft overs. I'm not sure, or itcould be the broccoli leaves, but she's been eating them for weeks. I have my strong 'bun mom' intuition that it's gas, so I'll have to give her some simthecone if she hasn't improvedfor tomorrow morning.

She's had this before more than a few times.. so I'm prepared if she doesn't improve.

[I've also posted this under when Pepsi was building a nest, because for some reason I thought it was in the infirmary**Also, can someone change the description to leaning towards gas? Not leaning against gas? Sorry I don't think when I'm fretting]

Oh Pepsi..You're such a worry for mom

Thanks :D That's so cute!

Well, we have poops and she still has a fiarly good appetite. She hasn't touched her hay or pellets, but is eating her vegetables (She ate the bowl from last night, atleast a cup of them, and I put another bowl of vegetables a few minutes ago) and she wentcrazy eating the oatmeal just so I can keep her fiber intake up. She's drank a bit from her bowl and there's lots of pee and poop. She's moving around like she normally does and is her very curious self. Her tummy also feels firmer than it was yesterday, so hopefully that's a good sign. I'm still going to keep my eye on her just incase, but she seems to be improving.

Thanks everyone!

Hi Spring!

It wouldn't hurt Pepsi if you gave her a couple of doses of simethicone.

Those off days will put you right on the edge won't they. :disgust:

It's a little less stressful for me having 8 bunnies, asI have something to compare to. If it's only one bun then I know it's something peculiar and underlying to that bun. However if it's all of them it's more likely something in common with them...like food, water, temp, change of season, etc.

Thanks!

She's a bit of a drama queen, so at this point I don't want to stress her out by doing the bunny burito and trying to get the syringe in her mouth. I will put some simthecone on maybe a piece of lettuce or some appleto see if I can do a sneak attack on her. The parsley you said before worked great for her appetite aswell!

Out of all the stuff we syringed into S'more, she seemed to like the simethicone best. Or at least she didn't fight taking it like all of the other stuff. Maybe it doesn't taste too bad??

S'more is what I consider my special needs bunnie as far as her emotional wellbeing is concerned. She's VERY insecure and we suspect that there was some kind of abuse that took place in her life before she came to us. She was in a pretty bad state when we resuced her and one of her babiesfrom the shelter. If I try to hold her without doing the burito she freaks. Once she's swaddled in the towel she calms down considerably. But each bun is different.

I know for sure Pepsi wasn't abused, but she gets stressed out very easily. When she's sick or I need to cut her nails is the only time I actually handle her because she reacts so badly to it. For her to come out, I use her ramp for her to choose if she wants to come out or not. I dread nail cutting because she does similar statis symptoms for 2 days and up with the not eating much. I think she'll be alright as long as she starts eating more regular.

I took a handful of her favourite part of hay (The small brown bits) and dipped them in water and she piged out on those and I hand fed her wet strands of hay until she refused them, so hopefully she'll be alright on her own.

Thanks!

Im not sure what you mean by gas but the symptoms sound like Trommelsucht just dont know what thats in english. Browny had it 3 times. She wa laying in her cage breathing fast and her belley was big.

If Pepsi has had those symptoms its a sickness to be taken serious and you should get her to the vet if you find her like that. Browny was told to have a hey diet after that. if its not the same sickness thats good but your description worried me.

Well, She's eating her hay again and I saw her by her pellet bowl so hopefully she's alright.

For the Trommelsucht, I did a translation and it came up with Drum that which is sought. Are you talking about bloat?

She's eating enough and pooping, and her belly is back to the normal firmness and shape so hopefully she's alright.

It could be bloat..I dont know the word either but it seems to make sense.

If you just translate Trommelsucht it means Drummingaddiction..so not sense making at all:Dvery old fashion expression..

Well Im glad Pepsi is ok now:)

my bunny is doing the exact same thing. not eating too much, although she is being a good girl and eating her carrots right now, and i have heard a lot of gurgles from her tummy! i'm pretty sure she has gas, but i'm still worried about her. she's never been sick before...

Ok don't panic, if she's still eating something that'sa good sign. Is she pretty easy to manage/handle? Is she drinking? What you cando is go to a drugstore and find some baby gas medicine that has the ingredient simthecone on it. The one I have isin a pinkbox called Oval. Wrap her in a bunny burito (The best method I've found). (Have the bunny facing or against you with his/her head just over the edge of the toewel and wrap tightly, but not too tight like a baby). After, I've found masaging for 10-15 min through the towel really helps.

Hope your buns ok! Simethcone works very fast and is a life saver with a bun with gas! Is her poop in normal amounts?

she wasn't pooping much yesterday, but she was still eating or drinking. i forced her to do some exercise last night, and i haven't heard anymore gurgles since. her poop is also more normal, so i think she's getting better.
