Hello I'm planning to spay my rabbit but i don't know where and the price for spaying them. Can someone suggest some locations where i can spay my rabbit within the 5 borros. And it would be great if you also tell me the cost of it.

I live in the Catskills, but check out this link. It has some vets in the city. You can also call around to vets in the phone book. Make sure that they handle rabbits. I have called some places around here and some of the receptionists tell me crazy stuff, like, "You don't need to spay rabbits" or "We only neuter males" Make sure that your vet knows bunnies.

I checked but it doesn't really tell me the boroughs its in. The only borough i know really well is in Manhattan. Where is Long island???

If you need help locating it, simply click the link at the end that says "need directions?" Then type in the vet clinic address (as listed on the page) and it will how you. You can also fill in your address and find out exactly how far it is. Oh, and I saw at least one from Manhattan on that list.

I also found 1 Manhattan there. But spaying cost 250 and check up cost 150. :? I really like the one in Longisland but i dunno how to get there. O yea does vets also clean ur bunnies? my rabbit is always losing fur but i know its not molting becuz it doesn't lose that much in one spot. I brush it a lot but its hard to get off the unwanted furs. or is there a play where u can take ur rabbit to gloom it like clean the fur and cut the nails. I like my rabbit a lot but sometimes her long sharp nails hurts me.

$250 for a spay isn't bad. I almost paid $350 for my doe (I'm only 18, and I've paid all my vet bills since I got my bunnies when I was 15) so I know howit is tohave to pay that muchbut you can't put a price on a good vet. And considering you live in NY, that honestly doesn't sound that bad. If you go to that link like I said, you can see where Long Island is in relation to you.

Vets will trim nails for a small fee but as for grooming, that is up to you. There is no such thing as a bunny parlor that I am aware of, but constant shedding can be caused and most often is caused by a poor diet. My rabbits used to shed constantly and I've seen made diet changes and one of them has stopped shedding almost completely except for the one moult he had before winter.

Watch how the vet trims the bunny's nails. I trim my Tinkle Bunny's nails about once a month. If I don't then she cuts the inside of her ears while cleaning them with her feet.:brownbunnyI just use a large NEW toenail clipper (I don't trust anything that has touched my BF's feet :) and go slowly. The front paws are a lot easier to trim then the back ones. You have to be careful, so if you don't feel comfortable it might be best to have the vet do it for you.

I wish I could help you figure out how to get to Long Island. I live in the mountains and have only been to Manhattan(for my ankle problems). In fact I am going to be at the Hospital For Joint Diseases on Thursday for another ankle surgery. :rollseyesI really don't know my way around the city and have a cab drive me all the way down. :dunno

Aww i wish ur ankle gets better. The thing is that my mom don't like my rabbit, she says that i spend too much time and money on it. And she never is willing to pay for anything that i buy for my rabbit. so ifi really want to do the spaying with 250$ then i'm really going to have to start saving or hope that i getthat job atthe library.

I'm not sure whats wrong with the diet, I feed it 3 things a day

Pellets, fruits or veggie, and water. I don't usually give her treats becuz i read that treats get them fat. My rabbit has been constantly shedding for a really really long time. I always thought that its normal, rabbits lose fur every day. But now i'm worried. Maybe i should get a check up.

What kind of pellet? Is it alfalfa based? That was the issue my rabbits have, instead I switched them to a timothy based pellet and it as helped a lot. Also, fruit is considered a treat although it is better than store bought treats, fruit should be only in limited quantities as a treat.

i give it a lot of carrots, are carrots considered fruits? i give my rabbit other fruits depending on what i have at home. I found out my rabbit loves apple and this long green vegie that i also like to eat. The pellet i get is from LM animal farms. Its called classics/ pet rabbit food.

I'm just wondering, what kind of bedding do you people use? I use care fresh, my friend told me its soft and absorbs the liquid. Is there anything better than that? Its really sticky when i tried to clean it.

I'm having a heck of a time finding nutritional info for that brand. Can you tell us what the label says? Protein percent, fiber percent, etc. At leas tit appears to be a plain pellet but LM Animal Farms is a Hartz brand and I wouldn't trust them to make anything decent. Even ifthe label looks decent, I still don't think I'd trust them.

If your rabbit is full grown, she would probably be better off with a timothy pellet like Oxbow Bunny Basics/T or Kaytee Timothy Complete. Peter's Maintenance Diet would also be decent. Reducing the protein amount by switching to one of these made a big difference in the fur of all my rabbits. Also, how much pellets are you feeding? An adult rabbit should have limited pellets, not as much as they want. That may also encourage her to eat more hay, which is really very good for her.

Fruit is a treat and so are carrots, so try not to give too much too often. The best rabbit veggies are leafy greens like leaf lettuce (not iceberg), parsley, and kale.

Hope that helps!:)

I' m very worried about the losing fur part. Ifi change its diets how long does it take for it to not shed soo often?becuz sometimes even when i touch it it fur just comes right off. is my rabbit sick??

Thx everyone. which is better hay or green left vegies?
Hi Kawaii,

How old is your bunnie and about how much does she weigh?

Found this information about the pellets:
The L & M is made from Dehydrated alfalfa meal and has:
Crude protein (min.) 17%, crude fat (min.) 3%, crude fiber (max.) 16%

my rabbit is about a year and a few months old.My rabbit is a lop rabbit so its kinda big, i think the last time i checked it was around 10nish.

I would recommend trying some Timothy Hay.

L & M has some, but the quality isn't that good.
Kaytee has a little better quality.
Oxbow is prefered by a lot of owners, but can be hard to find in our area (I'm just across the Geo. Wash. Br.)

I give romaine lettuce to my buns a couple of times a week. About 1 cup each time.

10 pounds sound kind of a lot for a bun unless that's normal weight for her breed. That could be why she's shedding so much. However, my buns are shedding quite a bit right now, too. It might be our crazy weather being so warm.

About how much pellets to you give her per day?

Carrots have a lot of sugar and should be given in moderation.

We have a member (ILTC)that lives in Queens that night have some info on vets for you. I'll PM her for you.

Our vet charges $190 for spay.
There are some less expensive, but you'd need to travel a bit to get to them.

Most vet will clip nails. Ours charge $12.
Some pet store like PetSmart have grooming sevices that will do it for around $8.
I just found out that the Pet Goods by me will do it for FREE!
