I would recommend trying some Timothy Hay.

L & M has some, but the quality isn't that good.
Kaytee has a little better quality.
Oxbow is prefered by a lot of owners, but can be hard to find in our area (I'm just across the Geo. Wash. Br.)

I give romaine lettuce to my buns a couple of times a week. About 1 cup each time.

10 pounds sound kind of a lot for a bun unless that's normal weight for her breed. That could be why she's shedding so much. However, my buns are shedding quite a bit right now, too. It might be our crazy weather being so warm.

About how much pellets to you give her per day?

Carrots have a lot of sugar and should be given in moderation.

We have a member (ILTC)that lives in Queens that night have some info on vets for you. I'll PM her for you.

Our vet charges $190 for spay.
There are some less expensive, but you'd need to travel a bit to get to them.

Most vet will clip nails. Ours charge $12.
Some pet store like PetSmart have grooming sevices that will do it for around $8.
I just found out that the PetGoods by me will do it for FREE!

What do you mean by grooming sevice? I have a regular lop they are considered 'large' rabbits. i called a few places and found out one play is 88 bucks for checkup then 380 for spaying. And i have to do the check up before spaying. Oh yea if i take my rabbit to the vet do i need an adult or i can bring it myself becuz my mom don't really like my rabbit and my dad is always at work.

A place where they do things like wash pets, clip & trim, clip nails, etc.

Our PetSmart has a separate Grooming Service and a vet (Banfield Vets) in the store.

Places that do cats will usually do rabbits, too.....except for the washing part ;).

I'd definately recommend getting better pellets. That's too much protein and not enough fiber. Mocha shed like crazy when she was on similar pellets. Oh, and hay is more important than veggies.

Your rabbit might be a mixed breed lop, but the most common lop breeds are holland lops, which are around 4 lbs, and mini lops which are around 5 lbs. French lops are somewhat less common due to size and are usually 12+ lbs. Can you feel her ribs, or do you have to push through body fat to feel them?

I don't know if you'll need an adult with you. You'll have to ask the vet office.

I did a lot of calling and i found out i have to have my rabbit do a check up first then the vet will tell me how much it cost to spay it. i hope it doesn't cost a lot. And i give up all hopes for getting my rabbit to vets thats not in the 5 boroughs, i'll just end up getting lost with my rabbit.

Hi you guyz, i called this lady on this site that one ofu gave me and she told me to go to this place on east 59th street and i can spay my rabbit for a lot cheaper price. But the thing is that i forgot what is that place call. :bigtears:So do any of you know?

It's ok that you just bought a bag because when switching to different pellets, you take about a month of mixing the 2together to avoid any problems with the rabbit. Changing the food too quickly is not a good idea.

But I agree that is likely the cause of the excess shedding. One of mine was like that and the pellets I had were 16%, now I have him on14% and he hardly sheds at all. Although all animals naturally lose a little all the time but it is hardly noticeable.

I will feel stupid if i call her back:phone:she will think that i wasn't paying attention. I talked to her for like 5mins and i wasted soo much of her time, and it would be mean if i keep calling. =(.

Can you people tell me the best and healthiest brand of pellets? Also my rabbit will eat any pellet, when i first got it i didn't know what brand to get so i just keep buying different ones and she didn't care.I'm really not good with it comes to health. Its confusing like vitiamA, C, Etc.... and the other healthy things like protien and nutrition.i keep forgetting what they are. =(

Unfortunately sometimes you have to put your own feelings behind you and that means calling back. Just say you are sorry but you forgot the vet clinic information you were given and are calling back to get it. I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time they had to repeat something to someone.

I would just call back too. Has anyone else heard of having to have a check up before a spay? I haven't. Usually, they do blood work and fecal sample before the surgery, the same day. Nail clipping they can do while the bun is still out and sometimes not charge for it, maybe I've just been lucky there.

An easy way to clip the nails yourself is to put the bun between your legs and you sit on the floor on your knees. You could also do a bunny burrito, that's how the vets do it. I just use toenail clippers, works great! Hope that helps. :D

My vet prefers to do a checkup before the spay if he hasn't seen the animal before. Then they do another checkup and any necessary tests before they start the surgery. But a checkup with my vet is only $15, so it's not like it's a lot of money.

Kawaii, just call her back. I'm sure she won't mind. I already listed three good brands of pellets in my other post. I feed Oxbow Bunny Basics/T and it's my favorite, but the others are good too and are probably easier to find.

Umm i asked a friend to call her, so anyway the place is called humane society of new york. The lady said spaying is only 40 bucks. The problem is that i can't reach them to ask for more information. So i think i'll have to wait until tomorrow's opening hours. Oh yea i mentioned that my rabbit don't like my floor, well i tried to have my rabbit get used to the floor and took out the rug, and my rabbit ends up sleeping and laying in the litter box. -.-". and my nail cliper isn't big enough for my rabbit's toe nails.

Kawaii, do you have a pic of your rabbit? I noticed you haven't started a blog yet?Since you say your rabbit is big, I'd love to see a pic, I love big buns! :D

umm i don't have any pic of my rabbit now, i'll post some on later in the year... Maybe i'll make a blog when i finish everything, which is remodeling the pen and adopting another rabbit. I think my rabbit is a french lop. When i bought it they said its a lop and i did some research and i think it's a french lop. Oh yea when i bought it they told me the wrong sex. I'm never buying rabbits from pet land again. -.-"

Cool. Yeah, pet stores usually don't have a clue about the rabbits they get. That's why alot of members on here don't get their rabbits from them, also, sickness can be an issue from being around other infected animals.Personally, I got my first rabbit from a pet store, not knowing of course, but luckily didn't have a negative experience. My newest addition, Snuffles, was also purchased from that same pet store, and he's healthy as well. I also buy my pellets and hay from that pet store and I always walk around and check things out, they seem to take pretty good care of the animals. Very clean. I just can't stand the smell right when I walk in,smells like dog-eww. :D
