Hi everyone! I'm new here...first time bunny owner located in the outskirts of Toronto, Canada! Briar the Holland Lop joined our family 3 1/2 months ago and has adjusted nicely. She joins my husband and I, our 6 year old son and 3.5 year old daughter, and our 3 rescues, Cooper the LabX (8 years old) and two cats, Cairo (16 years old) and Audrey (13 years old).

In the last month our sweet Briar Bum (as we call her) became a bit wild, and her previously excellent litter training had gone out the window. Being new bunny owners we couldn't quite figure out what had gotten in to her so I turned to Google for tips. It became clear very quickly that our little girl needed to be spayed, and that is exactly where she is today in fact!

I've enjoyed browsing the forums in the last couple of months and reading through various posts has been most helpful and educational as we learn all about our Bum! :-D

Here she is...first at 8-9 weeks (c'mon...how ridiculously cute is that rabbit!!??) and now at 6 months!

:hello

She is very cute and looks a bit like my Pepper! Is she a rescue like your other animals? I live in upstate New York and when I look at Petfinder.com for pets in my area they show me Ontario too. It seems like there are a lot of bunnies in Canada that need to be rescued.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you find it as welcoming and informative as I have. Being a new member myself, I'm loving this site. And, besides, there's nothing better than looking at bun pictures all day!

Briar is adorable. And, I love her name as well! Lops are some of the cutest rabbits around - those floppy ears get me every time. I'm glad you realized that her behavior was due to hormones and took the steps to get her spayed. Too many owners just dump their rabbits instead of figuring out how to manage behavior, and, in some instances, do what is needed to put an end to it. Now, of course, some bunnies personalities do change and the cute, loving babies they were turn into brat bunnies for life. But, spaying, in my opinion, will always help to some degree. And, I hope that is so for your Briar.

I'm sending vibes for a successful spay and speedy recovery. Please let us know if we can do anything to help in the meantime as well as when she is home and getting back to her normal self. And, please, more pics!

Hi everyone, Briar is home and is doing great! Eating already which is awesome! She's moving slowly and is groggy, but otherwise seems good. I'm very relieved!

Bville, Briar came from a pet store, but I consider it a rescue to a degree. She was living in terrible conditions and the owners and staff at the store were totally clueless about rabbit care. She has thrived since she's been home with us and although I'm a first timer, I continue to try and learn as much as possible about all things rabbit so that we can make her as happy and healthy as possible. ;-)

After doing a bit more reading, and after having the vet tell me Briar weighs 5.7 lbs (!) I've realized she is not a Holland Lop, but a Mini Lop! :)

Hi, welcome to RO!

I'm glad to hear that Briar's spay went well! I just got my bun neutered yesterday and I was so nervous - thankfully, it all went fine.

Briar looks like an absolute sweetheart!
