I gained a bunch of weight since my wedding last year to the point that my clothes didn't fit right and I wasn't feeling healthy at all. I decided to try Nutrisystem.

It has been challenging and I am only doing the weekday program. I do feel more healthy in the sense that I don't feel like a bloated balloon anymore and I think my clothes fit better even I am not dropping pounds. So it's working. The key seems to be portion control. It's such a weakness of mine. I don't ncessarily eat bad or unhealthy food but I just eat tons and I eat alllllll day. When I am stressed which is all the time at work, i just munch. Nutrisystem has been really tough in the late afternoon. Sometimes it's torture to get food out of my mind. Has anyone done this, have any tips? Done something similar?

I'd like to know if it works too. I've gained lots of weight since my last baby. He's 3 now. I'm about 140 now at 5"3. I'd like to be 125, even though 110 would be nicer. LOl.

I'm a stay at home mom since I took the buy-out at Delphi. It doesn't help when you have all the good snacks for the kids. Also, I suffer from depression, OCDand anxiety so I eat my feelings. Sometimes all I think about is food, and eat, eat, eat.

I've thought about Nutrisystem cause of the celebrities that have done it. They've lost weight and look good. Even though I can't afford the personal trainers, etc...

I try to eat a lot of bulky, nutritious, low cal, low fat foods. That way I don't feel like I'm "starving" myself. Fruits and veggies should be the larger portion of your meals. Prezels are a good snack when you get the munchies.

Fruits and veggies are also good to munch on inbetween meals. So far, I've lost 20 pounds. :bunnydance:

I also usedMyPyramid tracker for a while to manage calories. It also has a lot of good tips for eating healthy and cutting down fats http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov/

Wow!! Good for you, Pam! Nice work!

So far I have lost about 5 lbs on Nutrisystem, but it feels like a huge adjustment in life to just lose 5 lbs.

I *love* fruits and vegetables and eat more vegetables than meat that is for certain. But I eat a lot of carbs too like pasta, rice, potatoes - I love wholesome, filling foods like that... I also go overboard with the portions and that is where I get into trouble. It's totally a mental thing.

With nutrisystem I know this is what's in the box and that's all I'll eat. Then I will eat 1 egg. 1 cup of yogurt. 1 whole fruit, whatever it is. It's very cut and dry. I have to think about what I'll do when I get off nutrisystem because I obviously can't eat it forever. When I cook, it's for 2 people and I always cook too much it seems. In the interest of not wasting food my husband and I will end up eating everything, or packing some for lunch the next day and even then it's a lot. But cooking so very little seems like a waste of time. :(

It's tough... The fruits definitely help tide me over inthe afternoon for about an hour or so. But there are 5 hours between lunch and when I leave work and there's only so much fruit I can eat in an afternoon before that is also "overboard".

Maybe I will try some pretzels...

At SOME point I'm going to have to develop some discipline on my own, I know!

:headsmack:headsmackBecause I'm tired, I read yourpostwrong! Duh! So, Your doing the Nutrisystem!

How long have you been doing it? :highfive:Congrats on losing weight.

About a month. Last week was a complete failure though because of Kirby's bday I baked a ton of goodies and ended eating a lot of it over the course of a few days. Otherwise I feel like I coulda lost more.

You're supposed ti exercise but I didn't lol

my coworker is doing it too and he started a week before me. He is a gym rat but in a month he lost 6 lbs. It looks pretty to me. The flex weekday program costed me $234 or so for a month. Considering I get 3 meals and a dessert daily I am actually saving money! The program works, you just that to stick to it. In a month you should be able to drop ten lbs but that's if you do exacty what they say for 30 days and exercise. I figure 5 lbs a month is pretty good.

I am 5'2 and have no kids and no excuse! I was 115 a few years ago, then became 125, 132, then back to 120 for my wedding, and then 135 and I was approaching 140 when I said to myself enough is enough. I
didnt feel good about myself and it was time I did something to change it and take control....

I think it is worth trying. Picking the right meals that suit your appetite is very imprtant. I spent hrs deciding before I bought and am very glad I did. the program is hard enough with food that is ok to my taste, I can't imagine getting a food package that is random and that i may not like.

I was reading about it but I don't know if I can afford the food right now.

http://www.mypyramid.gov/has a lot of helpful tools to develop healthy eating and exercise habits.

I started on it this summer for my nutrition class project. It tracks your meals, counts calories and gives a lot of helpful tips for healthy eating.

The primary things I did was cut most of the fats out of my diet. Watch for foods that seem healthy, but are calorie laden such as fruit juices that are high in sugar, and muffins or bagels that are high in fat (plain toast or an english muffin are the best choices). Remember that colas have 100+ calories - choose the diet!

Eating out can be a challenge, so check out meals in advance online. Most restaurants now have their nutrition info online. This way you already know what you're ordering before entering the restaurant. I love salads - but dressings are very high in fat. Order low cal dressings on the side, and just dip your fork in the dressing occasionally. Skip the high fat toppings such as bacon, croutons, and cheese.

Keep a low fat snack food handy. You shouldn't always feel overly hungry or you'll stuff yourself at the next meal.

I buy products that are low sugar/low fat.

Check labels & know serving sizes!

Watch your calories when exercising. Exercise makes you hungry, so just exercise moderately and not before meals - you don't want to go to the table with a ravenous appetite.

The biggest thing that has helped me is eating bulky, nutrient dense foods. This way I don't feel like I'm depriving myself. If you do make a higher fat meal, eat a tiny portion of the high fat food, and fill up the rest of the plate with veggies (no cream or butter!)

Pam

pam, that is great advice.

i myself am on day 2 of my diet. it is similar to the nutrisystem, but different food. all the food i am eating is pre packaged, low fat/low carb/high protien. just add water and cook. and lots of protien shakes. my mom lost 70 pounds doing this, and my manager at work lost 60ish.

i really want to get down about 50 pounds, maybeup to 70 (want to stay in my healthy weight range). i am fat. lol.

so i have decided to go a little different route with this. im doing the food or shakesfor all but 1 meal a day (you eat like 5 to 6 meals a day on this diet), and my one meal is going to be a big salad or a lean cuisine. i eat a large breakfast, and small meals during the day.

my biggest advice is just to watch sodium levels, lots of low fat or low carb food bought in stores have very high sodium levels to improve taste.

a few things in the past that i know have helped are to eat raw low cal veggies (like romain lettuce, spinach, zucchini, ect) and to always have hard boiled egg whites around (i don't eat the yolk) the whites have under 20 cals and the yolks have under 60. they are great to have around. i normally hard boil 4 eggs every few days, peel, and cut them in haf, remove the yolk and keep them in the fridge for a really fast go to bite of something if i just feel snacky.

and drink LOTS of water, i just keep a big bottle of water around with me everywere i go.

and of course, take vitamines and calcium suppliment daily.

we will see how this goes. i have a HUGE christmas party for my work in december, and i really want to look good for it.

it really isn't a set diet.

my mom and manager went thru a diet program thru our hospital

i get my food, which is basically the same (with just a different brand name) as what they got thru the program (their's was only offered thru the program) from this website

http://www.proteinshop.com/?gclid=CNeVrdW145wCFQ_xDAodOSTrIw

my mom guides me, and i talk with one of the nutritionist at work that makes sure what i do is okay health wise.

i could go into more details if anyone is intersted but don't want to completely take over this thread lol

okay. the easiest way to explain is go by about what i eat in a normal day

first for breakfast i do this egg thingi get off the website, mix 1 egg white in it (just to give it a little extra something), sprinkle just a little cheese on it, and eat it with a slice of 35 cal. toast- meal is about 145 cals. not sure on the protien, and that isn't including the cheese as that is literally just a light sprinkle.

*btw, i normally eat the same thing for breakfast every day, just a habit of mine*

then during the day i will drink 2 to 3 protien shakes, i get shake mix from different places, so they very from 70 to 120 cals. and sometimes i add a smallbanana to it (i normally blend them with ice to give a smoothy appearance, if i can't i just mix with water). so that is about 680 cals for the day. just to give a number, it depends on how much banana, what shakes, ect.

then for dinner i do a lean quisine a salad, or make a meal from one of the packaged foods off the website (i LOVE the sloppy joes one). normally i try to stay under 300 cals for dinner

so that is a total of around 1125 cals for a day. that isn't including any little snacking i might do, or eating other things (like doing a second meal for the day or an extra shake), or eating desert. i very easily could add another 200 cals that way

now it seems very low on the cal scale. but i am getting enough to be fine. i didn't count the amount of protien i am eating, but it is a lot. same with fiber, everything is full of fiber. i take supplements like calcuim and a daily vit. everything is really soy except the lean cuisine. now this is my 3rd day, and each day i have cheated some. but it is getting less and less. and i don't worry about it.

when my mom explained to me how it worked for her, this was basically her setup.

honestly the food is good. not saying it is the best, but i don't mind it. it was a really easy transistion for me because the packaged food has that soy product taste and i eat lots of soy stuff

oh, and snacks are stuff like hard boiled egg whites, low cal veggies, low fat cottage cheese, ect.

the hardest part i am having is that i work in a kitchen, on a line. there is food around me all day, and the cooks constantly make new stuff to try (i am just going with taking a taste if i really want something, a bite or 2, instead of eating a whole portion. . . thankfully, my friend that i work with doesn't mind me taking a bite off his plate lol)

we will see how it goes. i really would love to lose some weight, i think it would make me feel better about myself

. . .any questions?:)

Pleasebe careful with those radical diets, folks.

I radically changed my diet last year and lost fifty pounds in about four months.

A few months later, I started getting sick and my gall bladder ruptured a few months after that.

Not fun....

Sorry to hear that.

I think I just need to change what I eat. I eat lots of doughnuts and junk. And being a stay at home mom, I just sit on my butt.I need to exercise :run:
