A lovely friend, Lee, lost her 2 year battle with cervical cancer on Saturday afternoon.

I last saw her at Southport Weekender in May .. that huge smile - a total zest for life .. In May 2009, she looked well .. on August 22nd 2009, she died.

I'm one of many women who put off having a cervical smear test .. I'll be making an appointment later today.

I was shocked to the core yesterday when I heard .. I hadn't know she was ill .. she certainly didn't look it in May ..

Gone too soon.

:nerves1 How terribly sad!

I never really put off my tests, but I have in the past few years which is horrible - especially for my age...... I think I need to set an appointment really soon!

I'm so sorry. It can strike anyone.

I made an appointment after Jade died, but for various reasons they couldn't do it so I had to be referred to gynae and go down that route and they decided it wasn't necessary for me given how hard it was for all involved, to do it and that the risk for me is so minimal. So I'm smear free, but not for want of trying.

It's good you are going to book an appointment. I hope the test goes ok and the results come back clear for you.

I'm very sorry.

I lost my mother to a long battle with cervical cancer that spread to her spine. I know all about this. I always get my smear test. I wish for every woman to know that with a simple test done regularlythere is no need for any womanto die of cervical cancer. At any point within TEN YEARS they can catch it, and get rid of it, just like colon cancer. There is no reason for any woman where they have access to health care to be dying of cervical cancer. You need to get checked once a year - if you are clear you will get checked every other year. I would never miss one of these tests. It is not painful, it takes five minutes and it will save your life.

she looks so young and happy. :( i dont know why good people have to die of things like that. its not fair, but life really isnt that fair.
may she RestInPeace. and let her passing be a reminder of things we should be doing. hopefully we can learn from it.

I am so sorry for your loss of your friend. I get mine every year, sometimes i miss my year mark and it goes a little over a year, but i am getting ready to call sometime this week and make mine for next year already.

I'm so sorry. (((((hugs)))))

I'm required to get the smear test to get my BC prescription renewed every year. So I've been getting mine done regularly for many years now.

Aweh thats so sad,
She looks soo much to my moms friends daughter, it's scary.

I'm not into that 'point of life' still a teen, ya know, but I know how important it is to get it, as my mom had it, but was caught early on.

I'm so sorry for your loss of a dear friend.
It's very hard when we lose someone close to us by cancer, I lost my grandpa to cancer 9 years ago.
I'm nervous about smear tests but, I know it's for a good reason, what is a little discomfort, for something that could potentially save your life.
Just remember to look up into the night sky tonight and you'll notice the one star that is brighter then the rest and remember that your friend will always be with you :)

:bunnyhug:i am sorry, what a vibrant, lovely smile!

thanks to hysterectomy my smear test days are over but i always went when the appt came. far too much cancer in my family to take the risk.

I am so very sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful woman and a reminder to me to have my test done again this year. So young and so vibrant to lose her so soon...

I am so sorry :( she looked like a beautiful person.

I have to admit it really riles me in this country that in ENgland they only do smears from 25 years old upwards and only every 5 years. I am in Scotland and had my first smear done at 17 and we have them every 3 years which although not as much as you can in the states is much better. So many younger women have lost their lives due to them not giving smears till you are over 25 I think its disgusting and very sad for these people. I have had at least 5 friends who have had abnormal cells found and treated before they were 25 that should tell the NHS something!!!

I had mine done a month ago and was happy to see it was fine luckily.

I hope this new injections will help as well!

I started getting smears done when I was 16, and I've got them every year since. I've had a few come back with them not being able to collect the correct cells, but so far nothing bad.

As far as I know, it is normal for girls to start getting PAP tests done when they have reached puberty. And you are supposed to get them once a year.

I have been getting one done every year since I turned 16, I am now 21. I will continue to get one done every year. In fact, I am due next month! I need to try to remember because I am now off of BC pills (they were always my reminder).

I am so sorry about the loss of your friend :(. She was beautiful.

You really should go Ali. Do it for yourself but if not for you, do it for those beautiful buns of yours. Who would look after them like you do?

This is slightly OT.

I lost a friend last year to pancreatic cancer.

LAST person on this earth thatI thought would die young .. it was truly shocking !

I just had a bunch of tests done after neglecting it for a long time ; the longer you don't go to the MD the more fearful you become of the reults

i am lucky that everything was OK but it still is better to get regular checks ;

then the thought of going doesn't get overwhelming
