My daughters bunny has developed diarrhea and it is all over him, what should we do and what is causing it

Welcome GusysGrandma,

Don't know if the rabbit has had too many treats or is stressed, or hashad a change in environment or pellets to bring on the diarrhea.

There's a post a few down entitled "My bunny has diarrhea" You should look over it.

Make sure the little one stays hydrated and keeps drinkingwater. Diarrehea quickly dehydrates rabbits and that initself can take a rabbit's life very quickly. If you have tosyringe feed her some water, do so, but be careful and go slowly so asnot to get any in her lungs. You could give her an eyedropper full of Pedialyte as well to keep her electrolytes up.

Give her plenty of hay, some oats if you wish. Take out thepellets for a few hours and just give her some hay and/oroats to help her dry up.

If you have any NutriCal (dietary supplement for dogs)in thehouse, a dab of that (1/2 inch or so out of the tube) couldn'thurt.

Welcome!

Go with Carolyn's advice!

How old it the poor little guy??

Clean him up best as possible. No bath though unless absolutelynecessary...and them only a luke warm tushie bath. Use a towel and warmwater to clean him up if possible. You can use a mild soap, but rinsethroughly.
You don't want to stress him any more than he already is. Make sure his real dry afterwards, too.

As much info as you can give will get the best advice.

I hope your bunnie getswell soon. My Riku hasdiarrhea too but she's getting better, thank goodness. I made her drink plenty of water (by feeding the waterto her through a syringe) andgave her hay to chew on. Shestillproduces a lot of stools but hopefully she'll get wellsoon. I'm keeping a close eye on her. :p
Speaking ofbathing, I usedrabbit powder to clean Riku...but I'm not sureif that's enough to keep her clean. I don't know how to bath a rabbitand always thought rabbits hate water...sois rabbit powderenough tokeep herclean? If not, how should I goabout bathing her? I'm a newb with rabbits so bear with me! :D

You can use a mild soap, Kyo.

Make sure you clean her up and dry her off so that the inside of herfur is dry. You may want to towel her dry really well, or usea hairdryer. I do use the hairdryer just to besure.

Have you looked at the Cheat Sheet for Rabbit Care post at the top ofthis forum? It's got some great notes, book recommendations, and links in it.

Thank you for the information, when I get home Iwill do all the things that you have asked me to. My daughterchanged his cage around, would that cause him stress? He getsthe food that is a mixture and Cheerios. We occasionally givehim the baby carrots, as he wouldn't eat the big carrots.

Gusy is extremely spoiled and we love him dearly and wouldn't want anything to happen to him.

Once agains thanks for the info

Yes, our bunnies mean the world to us!!

How old is he?

Hay, water, and oats for a bit..... until he's better.

If moving his cage stressed him, he should adjust in a day or so.

No pellet mixture, fruits, veggies, or Cherrios for now.

Keep us updated!!

Thank you for the information. We will go to the pet store and get hay and oats.

Also he seems to have a runny eye, what should I give him for that?

He is 2 1/2 years old.

We have cleaned him up and he finished the job.
