    Elder arthritis?

Im having the same problems with my 10 year old dutch, although he has been dealing with this for about a year now and is progressively getting worse. My vet put him on Cosequin when he first started having symptoms, along with a maintenance dose of Metacam for pain. She wanted to keep him on...

    Pain indication= happiness?

Sorry for the double info, looks like sas and I posted at the same time (but it's great we are on the same page) :)

    Pain indication= happiness?

Im so sorry to hear you are dealing with abscesses. I have had surgery for 5 of them on 3 rabbits. My Max has had 3 of those and all in his mouth. They are extremely painful for the rabbit. Im a little confused as to what your question is. Is she grinding her pain constantly? This can be a...

    Pools

Mine love the tiles put in the freezer. You can even buy the bigger ceramic tiles meant for flooring and they work great for bunnies to lay on. I would be nervous about a pool if they are unsupervised unless it was just a tiny thin layer of water in it. My fear is one slipping and injuring a...

Basil, Max, Tumnus, Lucy & Friends

Yup, he's on Metacam and we're continuing with Bicillin for another month or so. Max sure is a tough little guy. I dont know how he stays so strong. Having Basil by his side through it all sure helps. Bunnies are so fragile sometimes, but also so very brave and resilient.

Basil, Max, Tumnus, Lucy & Friends

Long day and Im very drained emotionally and physically but just wanted update on Max. He had surgery this morning to remove the abscess on his upper jaw. The Dr. removed two tooth shards, abscess and some nose bone that had started to decay with the abscess. He looks pretty bad right now- they...

    Horrible teeth :(

I would check with breeders here on the forum but I have never personally heard of rabbits having that severe malloclusion from chewing on their cage. That seems very strange to me. If I were you I would talk to other breeders before you breed him...dont want to risk passing that on to other...

    Horrible teeth :(

Even the tiniest shard of a tooth will most likely grow back. My Max had all of his front teeth removed and the vet must have missed a speck of tooth because he now has a mini tooth on top that i have to trim once a week. Just be very careful, even with a dremmel the tooth can crack and you...

    FLEAS

I love Revolution for fleas and mites. Midwest Rabbit Rescue uses that for all bunnies who come in with possible infestations. I think the dosing is confusing and depending on the concentration, it's usually just a few drops on the back of the neck. I believe Advantage is the one that is safe...

    New here-Health Questions :)

Rabbits can also develop allergies which can be seasonal. Or if they have access to hay now and they did not at the breeders, perhaps the hay is causing a slight allergy? I would think a drastic temperature change might do it as well. Its tough to say at this point but be sure to keep an eye on...

Willie needs help with his feet.

Ouch! Yes, Rexes (and I would assume Velveteen Lops since they are so similar) are more prone to sore hocks. If he was on a wire floor it would have probably made them worse. Although my vet told me that carpet can often make hocks worse due to the friction as they run across. It's good that...

    Horrible teeth :(

Here is a great article for you to read: http://www.rabbit.org/journal/2-6/tusks.html And the link to the Library-Teeth section for more info: http://www.rabbitsonline.net/view_topic.php?id=11901&forum_id=10

    Horrible teeth :(

Poor guy! He has tusks! The vet should be able to trim it back but might have to put him under anesthesia to do so. I know with many rabbits who have malloclusion that severe, vets recommend removing the front teeth completely. I know Fowlerville is not too far from me but I cant remember in...

Basil, Max, Tumnus, Lucy & Friends

Thanks missyscove. I think about you often and how he both have awesome golden retrievers who love our rabbits. How are your two doing? Are you able to have them with you at school yet? Jan, Im glad I could bring a smile during sad times for the forum. I always think of Pernod and Perry and...

What dog is best situeted for a bun?

As much as I am pro-rescue, for me raising a dog from a puppy in order to help train him to be gentle with my rabbits was extremely important. I have two golden retrievers and they are amazing with my rabbits. They are both still puppies (6 months and 15 months) and are very hyper at times...

    Bonded pair fighting

I agree, from now on always take them to the vet together. This happens quite often. Here's what I would do...put a little vanilla extract on your hands and rub them together, then pet both bunnies all over so they both pick up the same smell. You should also probably clean out their...

Pros and Cons for spaying rabbits? A debatable question, what's your opinion?

I am 100% in favor of spaying female rabbits. I know its expensive and invasive, but so worth it. My rabbits are much calmer, nicer and have almost zero behavior issues after the spay. They also will litter train easier. Also, I think it's silly to say you dont mind the risk of uterine...

    Help! Litter training!

I definitely agree with putting the hay in the litter box. At Midwest Rabbit Rescue they often use milk jugs hung upside down with the bottom cut off completely to stuff hay in and the top of the jug (which would be upside down) cut open a little so the bunny has to get it that way. If you put...

    Recommend a book?

Loved Life of Pi. Enders Game is an awesome book-it's Sci Fi but I loved it and I generally don't like Sci Fi. I also loved Lovely Bones and her other book, Lucky. If you want to laugh, Confessions of a Shopaholic and Bridget Jones Diary are great.

    Pebbles 06/23/04 - 05/14/10

Stan, I was looking through the RB threads and saw this post from sweet Carolyn and just had to share it with you: "...some people/animals just aren't supposed to die....Pebbles is another one that's on that list...It's difficult to grasp when they do pass over." I think that sums up how...
