Hello all.

I am new here and have a few questioins.

I have had bunnies in the past but that was when I was a bit younger, and I havnt had them in awhile so I need to refresh my memory. So, My husband recently got me two baby bunnies. Both are hyper, loving, and very sweet towards people.

They hop around and binky all over the place when they are in there playful moods :laughsmiley:

So for the questions I have, One of my bunnies has a damp nose..It isNOT runny nor does it have any coloration to it. It is just a little wet around his nostrals. There also isNO discharge from his eyes either. My other bunny has no dampness around her nose nor does she either from her eyes. Thats why I am curious about my other one.

Also, today when I let them out to run around the house I noticed the one with the slightly damp nose sneezed a few times..maybeabout 3times within like35-40 minutes. But the whole time he was out running around he was superrrr hyper and playful, binking around like he loves to do so he acts completely fine.

I just want to know if a damp nose and occasional sneezing is normal with bunnies.

Thanks in advance :hug2:

At this point I would just watch it... oftenthe rabbit's immune system will overcome a slight infection but not always ..
it is not normal but at this point is not urgent either.

it is great that you are being so obervant. :)

Are you sure that you have rabbits of the same sex?; often you need to check it yourself. and this has nothing to do with your original question :)

Rabbits sneeze a little bit sometimes, and some have damper noses than others at times. If the nose is wet enough to make the fur around the nose wet all the time, it should be looked it. Stress can also make a bunny's nose run, so right after they move into a new home they might have a runny nose. Sneezing is pretty rare, I'd say maybe once a week for most bunnies. With my guys I hear it maybe monthly, but I work long hours.

Also using wood that releases aromatic oils can irritate a bunny's nose so look out for cedar and non-kiln-dried pine.

Ok, so I am really confused on this one:?

Munchy - my bunny that I said was sneezing and had a wet nose, well his nose is getting a bit less wet and he is sneezing less lately and hes acting a lot more hyper and playful. The other bunny and the new bunny got damp noses almost as soon as they came into the house..but they didnt have it before I brought them into the house.

my question is,
All 3 bunnies were born and raised outside in 90-100 digree weather there whole lives and when I got them, they are living inside in a AC house. So could the sudden temperature change cause the damp nose?

A lot of the time the stress of a big change can make them have runny noses. My Muffin gets a wet nose right after I cut nails--it stresses her out. The cold could definitely have done it too.

i would like to point you toward a website medirabbit.com lots of information,,your bunny,s may have some issues...you can pm,me if necessary or visit my website which is listed on my profile...sincerely james waller:pray:

Rabbits can also develop allergies which can be seasonal. Or if they have access to hay now and they did not at the breeders, perhaps the hay is causing a slight allergy? I would think a drastic temperature change might do it as well. Its tough to say at this point but be sure to keep an eye on it and watch for signs of colored discharge etc.

Also, you said they were of opposite sexes, did the breeder warn you about keeping them apart? Rabbits reach sexual maturity between the ages of 3-8 months so it's best to keep them apart until at least one can be spayed/neutered.

Sorry, I think I forgot to add that all 3 of my bunnies are males, the one thought to be a female is actually a male, I got them sexed again by the breeder because I kept thinking that the one was a male, and infact, I was correct! I do plan to get them neutered as soon as they are of age! Thanks fot the help!

Temperature changes often cause wet noses, yup.

Don't judge their health by their 'liveliness', a rabbit has to be REALLY sick before they start showing signs like being subdued. Lethargy is VERY serious. They mask their illnesses very well. Being observant with slightly unusual behavior like wet noses is the key.

I'd also be very cautious about housing the males together. They can very suddenly mature to the point of fighting and the fights can be deadly. If you can have adjoining cages where they can still socialize but not do any damage to each other, that would be great.

Congrats on the new bunnies!
