Why did my rabbit die

My Rabbit Lola of 3 years died all of a sudden. She has been having diarrhea and bleeding from her rear end. Then after 2 or so weeks of that, she died. What happened. If we took her to the vet could we have saved her life?

Rabbits are masters at disguising sickness. By the time we notice something is wrong, it is usually quite advanced. This is why it is important to get a rabbit to a vet right away at the very first sign of something wrong.

True (watery) diarrhea would be considered an emergency for a rabbit. She should have been brought to a vet within 1 day of that.

So sad to learn your girl Lola died. Age 3 is so very young. AFter a day or two of diarrhea and bleeding from the rectum or vulva is a huge reason to Call Your Vet. Quickly!! With enough time to get treatment.

Social media can answer certain behavioral questions but Calling Your Rabbit-Savvy DVM is critical in order to get precise antibiotics or treatment to save a bun's life. Yes, YES, Yes. Call your DVM at the first sign of maladies. My deepest sympathies on the loss of your very young girl.

Diet, what types of parasites she may have picked up... so many variables that a DVM would immediately be asking if you call promptly. We Do Not Delay when anybun has "off" or abnormal symptoms. Medirabbit.com is a good site for discussing disease and GI ailments of domestic rabbits.

In addition to what Blue eyes mentioned about disguising illnesses, it is helpful to know your bunny's normal behavior. Did she eat all during the time she had diarrhea?

I hope your gal Lola did not have exposure to flea egg ingestion on grass. We noticed our girl having blood spots on the rug, and found out she had a tapeworm.

Thanks so much for the help, I'm only 13 and i asked my mom if we should take her to the vet. However, we were not sure if it was a real problem or if it was just in what she was eating. We searched it up on the internet and we saw it could be from the greens she has been eating, Kale was one of them and we have been giving her a lot of that when we noticed she started bleeding.

It wouldn’t be just kale causing bloody diarrhoea. It could have been lots of different reasons, it’s difficult to say without a proper examination. At least you can learn from this and you’ll know for future, rabbits are different to cats and dogs and what might seem less urgent in other species is often life threatening in rabbits. Basically, any time your rabbit isn’t acting itself or has weird symptoms, best to get to a vet to get checked. I’m so sorry for your loss x
