Hello RO,

My wife and I need some serious help. We have two Holland LopDoes, (3 months and 4 months). They are not litter mates andthe have been living together for a month and half with out anyissues. We were watching our babies and notice the 3 monthold on jumping on the 4 month on and what looks to be bitingher!!!! We split up the two for a min or so thinking they arejust playing. 5 mins after she was back on top of her bitingher bum and back. NOW we are worried. We haveseperated them in different cages but we dont know how to deal withthis... ITS so hurting to know they are fighting now:( The girls are spayed yet, which we will end up doingsooner then later. Can anyone shead some light on how to dealwith this type of behaviour?

Thanks,

Jeff N Sarah

Sounds like a hormonal and dominance issue. Thisusually occurs when rabbits hit puberty. Getting your girls spayed willlessen, or even eliminate, this problem. The only drawback is, youcan't get your girls spayed until they hit 6 months of age. Until then, they may need to stay separated if the fighting continues.

Yep, sounds to me like a fun game of "I'm the boss" or "I'm sexually mature and want babies with you" etc.

My rabbit did that with her sister (who my brother'sfriend owns), luckily Rosie was pretty gentle, no biting, just a goodold humping.

So like Phinnsmommy said, spay! (I hope spaying fixes Rosie:D)

It does hurt to see them fight. I know. Most youcan do is keep them near each other but apart till spay time is best.Dont want any bad memories. Try and keep things on good terms.

Will webe able to put them back togetheragain after spaying? The bun that was attacked isSObummed now..she just sits there and doesnt eat herfood. Should weput the two cages together so thatthey can see each other?

I would put the two cages side by side so theycan still interact with each other through the cage bars, but not fightwith each other.

They will be sad to be apart, but it's best for them if they are fighting.

You can start looking for a rabbit savvy vet to do spays and some ofthem will do spays at 4 months of age. If the bun is a dwarfbreed it means they mature faster and the vet will be able to find thecorrect organs easier at a younger age then a larger breed.

Most of my fosters get spayed at about 4-5 months of age, once they hit sexual maturity.

Then once they are both healed up from their spays, you can start bonding them again.

I have checked the section that shows SavvyVets, but none are really in my area. Would anyone know of agood Savvy vet around the Woodbridge, Ontario area?

Well the breeder said they wereFemales. although the one that got humped looks like abuck. But im not sure. Is there any way totell? Something that i can do?

You can try sexing them yourself now that theyare a bit older and their genitals will be easier to see. There's some pictures and information here:

I would just start calling around to the vets in yourarea. There's some good information in the Library sectionabout finding a good vet, here's the link foryou:http://rabbitsonline.net/view_topic.php?id=15002&forum_id=10

Once you find one, please post it the the rabbit savvy vet section soothers in your area will know! Good luck, I hope you find agood one.

hey forum,

just to give u an update we did indeed end up seperating our girls. Wehave their cages side by side, so they can more or less see eachotherif they want to. We tried to take them out and have them play together, but moo moo struck again lol....she started humping our poor hugs againso we had to seperate them.

For a while now both of them seem pretty bummed to be away from oneanother, its so sad to see them depressed :(Things haveimproved some what with hugsy (apart from the occasional bite on thebars of the cage..what does this mean?), but now there is cause for anew concern. Moo Moo seems to be pooping irregularly. Some timesthey're big, sometimes small, sometimes wet looking...it varies. Wethought it might have been due to the atmosphere change for the firstfew days, but the problem still seems to be happening. As well we tookher out to play today and she peed a few times on the mat we put heron.....After peeing one time, she seemed to discharge a mucusy lookingsubstance that we aren't too sure what is. I'm not sure if she wasmarking her teritory, as we had let hugsy out on the same mat before,so she possibly could have been smelling the scent?? Either way we'repretty concerned. She just seems so depressed, and we don'tknow what to do...its so heartbreaking...:(She also appears to betrying to dig alot? Is she trying to tell us something by doing so?

We have been feeding her the same diet as we were before, and have notintroduced store treats, or fruits and veggies into any of our bunsdiets...we've just been giving them timothy hay and the same pellets wegot from the breeder for them, and have been using alfalfa hay as atreat for them on occasion. We do plan to spay our girls, oncewe're in the financial position to do so, but until then does anyonehave any insight on our problem, or suggestions on what we can do tocheer our girls up? We have posted this in the infirmary too, but we'rehoping some of u experienced rabbit owners may be able to relate towhat we're going through....

Also, we have made a new addition to our family :Dwe wentlooking for toys for hugsy and moo moo to help cheer them up and endedup coming home with a new baby bunny:bunnydance:we eventuallywant to bond them all together, and haven't had any problems with hugsythus far, so we were wondering if it is a good idea to let our new babyand her play together, prior to hugs getting spayed.....

Any help on all of these matters would be really appricated!!!!
