Hey guys, I’m trying to figure out this baby’s color it’s really thrown me though a loop! Parents are magpie, and chinchilla, let me know your thoughts.
This is the first baby that I’ve had from this pair to look like this, other babies mom has had are (chinchillas) (lilac) (chocolate chinchillas) (sables) (blacks) and (magpies) (frosties) I was planning on breeding back to mom to see what I get is that a good idea? Or I can keep a frosty male let me know what you think.I think he’s a blue Himalayan
I’ve also never seen blue in either mom or dad but I know sometimes a random colour will pop up In litters.I think he’s a blue Himalayan
Would you recommend breeding to a magpie? I was hoping that I might get a harlequin. The color is called frosty. Not himalayan. All himalayans have red eyes.
Big facepalm moment on my part. The color is called frosty. Not himalayan. All himalayans have red eyes.
In order to get a harlequin, you need the ej gene. Magpie carries that gene but they also carry the cchd gene instead of the C gene that the harli needs. The frosty is most likely carry cchd because his linage is chinchilla and his color carries the blue(? Correct me if cchd isn’t a blue gene) in the cchd gene. C is full color saturation. The Edelweiss Ranch website has great articles on the gene locus’s.Would you recommend breeding to a magpie? I was hoping that I might get a harlequin.
Okay thanks so much for the advice, I do appreciate it!Big facepalm moment on my part.

EDIT: your magpie can carry the C gene depending on what her/his linage is, but I’m just talking about the basic gene code.
