Hello,

I am a first-time rabbit owner - I have had my bunny for a week or two now.

I had planned on getting one for some time, but I didn't have any specific breed in mind. I was just going to pick out whichever one I liked the best from what was at the fair this year, and that's what I did. But I'm dumb sometimes, and with everything going on, I totally forgot to ask which breed he was when we picked him up,since it didn't say on his cage.

He's ~4-6mo old and weighs just under 2 lbs at the moment.

I actually prefer larger rabbits most of the time, but I really liked this little guy, so I ended up with one way smaller than I thought I would get.

I have tried to figure out what he is via the internet, but the only rabbit I can find that looks like him to me is the Britannia Petite/UK Polish, but they are also described as being 'aggressive' or not good pets, and similar things, and he is such a sweetie and honestly more well behaved than I ever expected a rabbit could be, so that doesn't sound right. And sometimes his legs don't look quite long enough, but it depends on what position he's in...

The only other options for a rabbit that small though would be a Polish (US) or some type of dwarf, and he just doesn't look like a dwarf to me. They have a different, stubbier kind of shape imo, and he doesn't have that, so I don't think he's a dwarf. I could always be wrong. He doesn't look as round as a regular polish rabbit either, although the personality would match better. So I can't imagine what he would be? He's cute, whatever he is. LOL.

Does anyone think they know? I tried to add pics where you can see him the best and from a couple different angles. If there's anything else I need to add, let me know.

Thank you!

Definitely not Britannia Petite or Polish. I also don’t think it carries the dwarf gene. He looks like a Mini Rex rabbit, even though the fur doesn’t look rex fur. I think he’s a Mini Rex mix.

I actually was thinking that too, except for the fur. He definitely doesn't have rex fur though, so I didn't think he would be able to be a mini rex if that was the case.

Can they be showable as a mini rex even with normal fur? I put he was a purebred in the title because I assumed any rabbits that were shown would be purebreds and he definitely was. I think he was grouped with others of his breed too, and they all looked similar to him except most of them had black spots instead of grey/blue, and it was only around their eyes, not on their whole body (though there were a couple that were like him but black). So none of them necessarily looked like rex rabbits either, but I am just kicking myself for not asking and knowing for sure.

Whatever he is, he must not conform to the standard that well if it's this hard to tell LOL. But I guess that's why he didn't win anything.

Since he's just a pet and he's going to be fixed and all, I don't necessarily care. It just would have been nice to know.

If he doesn’t have Rex fur, then he’s not Rex. I just think he might be a Mini Rex “mix”, taking the body shape of it, but not the fur type. He also looks like a Dwarf Papillon mix.

Well if he couldn't be shown as a mini rex without rex fur, then that's definitely not it, which is why I originally didn't include it as a possibility. He's a purebred something!

I didn't think he looked like a dwarf, but that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't one. Now that you say it, the rabbits all near him that I was describing before looked like dwarf papillons 100%, and I am pretty sure they were grouped by breed. So I think that might be it. And other than just.. not looking like a dwarf, he does fit the rest of the description for the most part. At 1.95lbs he's on the smaller side, but still their normal size.

Although his body type/shape is what made me steer away from saying he's a dwarf in the first place... So if I start considering them anyway, a few of the dwarf breeds could be equally as likely as the dwarf papillon, which makes me skeptical. It's a tought one imo, for sure.

I think that might be what I have to go with. Unless I end up getting another response that changes my mind lol. I'm going to say he's a dwarf papillon for now.
