Hi everyone I am weighing up the idea of getting another rabbit as a friend for my 5 month old rabbit, can anyone help me on what are the pros and cons of keeping more than one,

Thanks

mez xx

You should be sure that your current rabbit is spayed/neutered before getting another one. You should also have the new one spayed/neutered before bonding.

Some Pros

Your bunny will enjoy having the company of another rabbit

If they play together, that is better entertainment than any tv show

As long as both are healthy, I suspect that bonding two rabbits improves chances of them living longer (just my theory, mind you)

Twice the love for your bunny; twice the love for you

Some Cons

Twice the vet bills (a big consideration)

Twice the food bills

Twice the cage space (if they are housed in cages for any length of time)

Spay/neuter must be considered if bonding

Bonding may not work

If your present rabbit is close to you, that might change somewhat as the rabbit bonds with the new bunny...you could feel like you are being neglected

I didn't think there was any cons with having rabbits lol Rabbits are the best pets!!!

But you do have to think about bills and money. Other than that i think it would be great for both you and your rabbit :)

All that is right. I have one though.

If they don't bond (because that could happen) do you have room to keep them in separate cages.

I have two;

Pros for rabbit: company, fun, 24-hour cuddles, personal groomer.

Pros for me are: double the hugs (sometimes!), double the fun, the sight of the two of them cuddled up together......

priceless!

Cons: sometimes they have to 'fight' each other for the treats/food as Lacey is so greedy and bullies Starksy!, double the trouble/mischief,extra on vet and food bills. Starksy spent a few weeks with us before Lacey came along and he is such a big softie with humans, she is totally not. It could just be a difference in personality but I believe it's because Lacey had less one on one human contact from an early age.

You can never have too many rabbits!
