Weird bunny poop

So my bunny started acting weird last night. He stayed in one spot for majority of the night. He hasn’t been eating really. I’m not sure if he’s been really drinking. Then today he’s been out and his poop looks like this. What could this mean?

He stomach is soft. I was waiting for his oxbow pellets to come in the mail. So for a couple of days he was eating romaine lettuce. I fed him twice a day for that..

What is his usual diet? I was thinking that maybe gas problems, but I guess not. Is he ok now?

He gets one shot glass of pellets a day and endless amounts of hay. He was eating a lot of lettuce for the past few days

So he's better now? Maybe he had gas pains from the lettuce. If it's better now you shouldn't worry too much. What other veggies do you give him?

I don’t know if he’s fully better now. He just drank some water and he ate a couple pieces of hay. He still hasn’t touched his pellets.

Well he's making improvements at least. I hope someone more knowledgeable will weigh in. I think you should consult a vet. How old is he?

If he's barely eating you need to get him to a vet immediately. A rabbit not eating(or barely eating) for more than 12-24 hours is considered an emergency, as the lack of food leads to a gut slowdown that can result in a blockage. Then there is the possibility of the poop being caused by coccidiosis, which a fecal float will need to be done to rule that out.

If he's eating an adequate amount now so that he is continuing to poop well, and the poop is no longer misshapen or there are only a few odd shaped ones while most are normal, then it could be the pellets were the cause if this happened after you started him on the new bag. If so then there could be something bad with the pellets and I would no longer feed them and would contact the company. If it was the pellets I would probably want to have the bun seen by a rabbit vet and possibly have blood tests done to make sure no liver/kidney damage occurred.

If this happened previous to starting the new bag of pellets, and he's eating enough hay and his poop is normal or mostly normal now, then it could have been a random upset of some sort. It's also possible there is some sort of serious underlying illness going on. So if in doubt it's always best to have your bun checked by an experienced rabbit vet right away.
