Hi folks. Hope you are all safe! My rabbit jasper who is a good 10 years old and can only eat softened pellets went to a different vet today to check his teeth. My regular vet is off sick long term so had to find another vet. The old vet used to file Jaspers teeth down regularly which helped him to eat his pellets. However this vet said she was shocked at how his back teeth were going outwards instead of straight down! This is causing the pain and infection. She advised giving him 2mil metam daily plus 5 mil of Calpol6+ each day. Plus a weekly injection of penicillin for the infection. I wondered If any of you have had this challenge too? He’s ok in himself and has appetite plus poo etc is normal.

Hmm... I've never had something like that as Oreo is my first rabbit and she is quite young (she turns 1 on November 5). I hope Jasper is good!

As far as I know, acetaminophen/paracetamol isn't commonly used for pain management in rabbits. Not a lot of info on it though. But it is hard on the liver, so definitely shouldn't be used if a rabbit has any liver issues.

Thanks I’m ignoring it and using Metacam which he had today and he’s much perkier too! Reviews are very good using this too.

I've always had good success with meloxicam/metacam when given at an effective dose. So it's definitely my preferred pain med for rabbits. Though I wish it wasn't so expensive.

What dosage did you give your bunny? Mine may need it long term my vet said 2mil a day with Calpol but I’m not giving him Calpol too risky on his liver

Usual dosage of meloxicam for rabbits is 0.3-0.6mg/kg twice a day. For short term acute pain the higher dosage has been prescribed by my vet. For long term chronic pain(arthritis), the lower dosage range was.

The ml's given depends on the concentration of the suspension(mg per ml) and the weight of your rabbit
