Hello all. As you'll know I'm a new guy here.
I've just recently started back up on my rabbit breeding money making thingy.
I used to breed mixed breed lops but now I will be breeding Netherland Dwarfs as they fetch a pretty penny.
I needed a new Hutch/hutches but unfortunately my bank account is somewhat drying up so the only option was to make one.
The cage I made is very very basic with reasonable size enclosures for individual rabbits. I think it'd probably survive an atomic bomb but I won't be testing it in the near future.
Here is a few photos of the process.
Any advice on improvements would be awesome!
I forgot to say that this isn't the only hutch I have. I also have an outdoor run which they will go into occasionally.
First off I started by making a frame out of 2×4 timber. Very simple.
I then got some very thin MDF boards which I fixed to the top, bottom, back and sides to create a boxing round the frame. These are only suitable for indoor hutches. They will rot outdoors.
After that I found some old IKEA shelves which I was going to throw out so I made good use of them by turning them into floors on each cage. They are very strong.
Next I made some doors out of the same timber I used for the cages frame. I then used a staple gun to attach some 1×1 mesh onto it.
Lastly I fitted some small locks into the doors to prevent the Rabbit from escaping.
As I already said it's really really simple but hopefully it should give the rabbits plenty of room and hopefully it should last a good while.
