saturday i noticed that there was blood all overthe bunny room...i looked over both bunnies and nothing seemedwrong...then yesterday peapoo started limping so i looked at her footand she's pulled one of her toenails out... is there anything i shouldbe doing or need to do about this? its REALLY swolen and looks reallypainful:(

thanks for the help:bunnydance:

Poor Peapoo! Pipp broke one of her's,but it took a few days to come offcompletely (she flicked herfoot and it went zingingby my ear like abullet!).

She was fine,I don't remember noticing it getREALLYswollen, although it did look painful and she did limpa little.Itwas only badfor aday or so though. If Peapoo'slooks infected, I'dsay it'svet time. Rabbit infections are nothing tofool with.

My guess for now is to just keep it clean, soak it a bit in luke warmwater if she'll let you, or wipe it with water on a cottonball, and try some neosporin (the regular stuff, not the stuffwith pain relief meds), and/or clean the edges carefully with somehydrogen peroxide solution (it stings and can make them shocky if a lotgets into a deep wound, so not too much). If itdoesn't look better within a few hours, or a day at themost, take her in.

Does it look pusy or scaley?

Hope she's feeling better soon!

well it must have happened saturday becausethere was blood all overthe carpet thatafternoon..but when i checked them over everything looked normal...shewasnt even bloody..her fur around her toes and her feet were allclean... i just noticed it last night because she was limping... lastnight it was really swolen and puffy looking.. im about to go check itagain in a minute...i didnt have time to checkit thismorning, but she was still limping:(

well, it doesnt look any better today:(...stillswolen and red... and it definately looks scaley or something likethat..isscaley good or bad?

poor little bunny girl! you can tell its stillhurting herbecause she didnt want me to touch her feet (which she usually doesntcare aboutat all) :saddened

thanks greta...peapoo is getting a lotof hugs and attention today (and we cant leave petey out, so he'senjoying it:))..

when my mom gets home shes going to look at it and see what shethinks...she should be able to tell how bad it is because she used tobreed sharpies and it happened to them alot.. she said we might have totake her to the vet...i hope its not bad!:(it will be herfirst trip to the vet if we take her:?..and ill get them to check forear mites, fleas, and stuff:)

Didn't mean to alarm you! It'sprobably not it, but there is acondition (the name escapesme) marked by white scaley stuff (although I don't recall it beingcaused by an injury) that's progressive -- it slowly moves up thefoot. A bunny I know had her toe amputated -- which wasn't asmajor as one would think. Apparently it was easier toamputate than to keep treating it.Again, thatwasn't from aninjury. But probably one more reasonto see a vet if it's not looking any better.

well...i think it looks bad...but mom says itsfine...she's seen this alot, but i still think she should go to avet..doesnt look like there's anything i can do exceptwait:(....hopepeapoo's ok:(

Well, toenails coming out rarely do causeproblems. So if it's not big, purple, pusy and/orfull of icky deadtissue, she's probablyright! Just keep cleaning it and putting the first aid creamor solution on it, it'll probably be fine. :)

the middle of it is black..but im pretty sureits a scab and not dead tissue(i didnt really check on that because ididnt think about dead tissue),at least thats what i hope it is..imgoing to see if she'll let me touch it long enough to clean itnow...earlier i tried cleaning it but she kept jerking itaway, and she was stressed so i stopped trying.. i know she'll probablybe ok, but im still really worried about her...she'smy littlebaby andi couldnt stand to lose her:(

edit

somebody on another forum told me to use cornstarch to stop her bloodfrom clotting? i dont exactly understand why you would want it to stop?wouldnt that make her bleed even more? im confused:?

Yikes, no... that's just if you cut the quick when you're clippingtoenails. I really don't think cornstarch is the thing to useon any other wound. Regardless, that'sonly for bleeding issues, which Peapoo doesn't have.

(And you don't have to do much more than dab it with the peroxideand/or neosporin, you really just wanttokillgerms, not take off the scab).

One time Pepsi was struggling and kicked at mystomach when I was trying to calm her down and she ripped out both herback toe nails. There was blood everywhere- on my shirt, pants, on herfeet, covering her toes, on her belly it was a mess. I got some flouronthe nailsand it stopped bleeding, but that wasall I did for it. She kept it clean by licking it. Do you know if she'scleaning it? I don't think Pepsi had scales, just a little nub wherethe nail was, but I didn't geta good look though.

I'm sure she'll be fine :). Btw, what are sharpies? :D

I hope she's okay. Mocha ripped out anail once and she was fine, and Fey and Sprite had a bunch of nailsthat had been broken and regrown when I got them. Just keepan eye on it and make sure the swelling doesn't get worse.

S'more ripped the top of one of her nails off. It must have bled someand then stopped...she did it during the night. In the morning a scabhad formed and turned her nail black. Not the first time that this hashappened. As long as it doesn't get swollen or infected she'll be okay.Keep an eye on it for a few days

This is not correct. Cornstarch will cause the blood toclot and the bleeding will stop. I always have a small cup of water, some cornstarch, and some Q-tips handy when I'm clipping nails. Grab aQ-tip...dip it in the water....dip it in the cornstarch...press it onthe bleeding nail. Repaeat if necessary.

sharpie..that might not be spelled right:?..... its a brand of permanent marker

about the cornstarch and baking soda...i thinkthat they misunderstood what i was trying to say and thought she hadonly broken the end of into the quick..they usually give really goodinformation:)

ive been putting neosporin on peapoo's nailsince yesterday...the swelling isalmost goneithink..it still looks the same and she's still limping a lot:(, but impretty sure she's going to be ok! yay:bunnydance:i was reallyworried about her!
