Both me and my son struggle to pull out hay from the bales we buy because they are so tightly packed. It makes feeding a bit of a hassle. I feel like I'm pulling out one straw at a time. Is there any secret trick to making it easier that I haven't figured out yet?

depending on the bale you can find a separated section from when it was put together that you can pull up and shake to loosen.

Could you post a photo of the types of bales you get?

With the type I get, there are 2 or 3 ropes/strings that hold it together. If they are all cut, it will expand to an unmanageable mess so I don't do that! But one can be cut to make it easier.

1. Make the bale stand up.
2. Cover an Xlarge plastic garbage bag completely from top down to bottom.
3. Flip up the bale with the bag.
4. Cut all the ropes.
5. Always keep the plastic bag open to prevent moisture build up. You can also make holes on sides of the plastic bag for aeration.
Then you get layer by layers of hay easily to manage for feeding.
