Will it be possbile that three rabbits could live happily in a free-roaming apartment? I would like to pick up another rabbit from the HRSS but I do not wish to cage it or border off an area.

It would certainly take time to bond them, and be difficult because of the lack of neutral territory, but it could be done, yes.

Will the bonding process be similar to the bonding of two rabbits? It didn't take much effort for Happy and Sofi to bond - it happened almost instantly. I reckon it will be more of a task to bond three.

However, I've seen many rabbit enclosures where there are more rabbits in a much smaller area than my apartment. I don't see them fight. How much space does a rabbit need to call it 'his'?

Hi there! If you are new to rabbits, it's best to stick with what you have and try to bond them. Bringing in a third could put the whole thing on hold for a bit, and do you have separate housing for all three if they don't bond? That is something to think about also;).

It is possible to bond all three, but since every rabbit is different, it just will depend. Are they spayed and neutered? (I sound like Bob Barker:p) You will have better luck with rabbits that have been altered. The hormones will slow down and then the bonding process can begin, you need to wait almost two months after a male has been neutered to try to bond him with a female that has been altered.

Try it and see how it goes. Then, after trying it once, you will get a feel for each rabbit's attitude about it and go from there. Like, start out with the two that seem to get on best, and then incorporate the third. Repeat the process.:)

Good Luck!

Since Happy and Sofi are already a pair, would it be better if I bring in another female instead of a male?

Where are you thinking of getting one from? You could take them to a rescue and see who they like best, let them feel it out, so to speak. You can call around and see which places will allow you do bring yours in to meet others as a possible friend.

I was thinking of getting another from the local HRSS; where we got Sofi from. So I guess the next best thing is to get them to bring a new candidate over to our home and have them meet, say, in neutral territory outside the apartment.
