Hey guys!

I was wondering if you could throw me your suggestion on how/where to get over 100GB of pictures and videos off our computer. I want to have hard copies of them.

We bought CD's, but we're lacking a good program that will burn both pictures and videos onto CD...

Anyone know of a good program (that's hopefully free)?

Anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?

Thank you!

I don't know Rosie. I wish I could help, but I'm sort of new to all of that sort of stuff too.

Did you get any software with your camera or recordable drive? They usually include a program.

If not, I would visit http://www.download.com/. Explore and look at reviews on programs and what not. You can get free stuff from there or any site if you just review it's sources first. They're out there.:)

100 gig! Dude , how'd you get that much stuff? My hardrive is only an 80gig, and it's spilt into two so I keep all my stuff in the 50 gig partition. Even then I've still got all my stuff from years ago.

Anyway, 100gig is really way too much for CD's or even DVD's, really, it would take so many and take so so so long to burn all that. I second the suggestion of an external harddrive. Even an internal one, you can plug them inside the computer, format them, transfer a copy of the stuff over, then take it out and store is somewhere cool and static and moisture free.

That makes my head hurt:banghead. :surrenderWe used to have a partioned hard drive into two 30 gigs;).

Advice from the peanut gallery here, Ryan gave me his two cents...

If you want to archive the information, if you can get a hold of a some dual layer DVD's and a DVD burner, that would be a good way to go. A dual layer DVD can hold about 8 gigs. Otherwise you're going to have CD's coming out of the wazoo...

If you just need to get the off your computer, then go with a removable hard drive. They come pretty big now a days, and for not too much money either. Most are usb.

As for programs, Ryan is kinda useless with Windows, lol. He's a hard core linux user and hates Windows with a passion. So unless you want to switch to something like Ubuntoo (not a bad idea, :p), then no suggestions from here, other than don't use the standard Windows tools as they suck.

I am such a HUGE dork, guys...I checked with Danny...apparently we've got ELEVEN gigs on the computer of pictures and videos. Oh my goodness...I feel like a dope. I guess I meant 110K instead of G.

:embarrassed:

But, um, yeah...maybe I can at least surprise you with the fact that we've collected that much in 10 months?? Lol...what a doofus...

Anyway, we still do need to figure out how to get all of it (at least the info from 2007) off the hard drive...so I'll be looking into (and passing through Danny, our household techie guy) all your advice.

:biggrin2:

hehee, 11G is much more manageable. If you have a DVD burner, then definately DVDs - which is cheaper than a hard drive, but the external hard drive is a really good idea too. I am going to get one this month to back up all my photos. And I really do have 100G of photos I think. LOL.

let me recomend something that would be more convienent. Get some flash card drives that plugs to the USB port.

You can transfer anything from pc to flash cards and take it to friends pc, families pc and etc. I will be getting a handful of them soon incase I ever have to format my hardrive. I hate it when that happens. CDs and DVDs are starting to be a pain also they easily get scratched.

I had actually considered this last night. I'll have to run it by Danny again. He said something about not wanting to, but I'm gonna have to refresh my memory...as he also was against doing the CD thing, but recently changed his mind on that, too, hehe!

Thank you! :)

YAYY!! Figured it out!

The Roxio program I was using WAS working, it's just that I was trying to open the stuff on the CD's wrong, LOL!!

So, eight burned CD's later (700MB each), and I've cleared about 3.5G from our computer! YAY!

That's not even half of what we had (which was about 11G), but hey, it's a good portion at least. :D

I's proud of myself. :biggrin2:
