Ever since I got Cloudy -if you remember him...well her, now that I checked once more-, I noticed that she had a stuck out nail from the inner side of her paw and I didn't pay it much attention because I thought that's how it was but just a moment ago she was on my chest and I was petting her so I fiddled around with her paw and saw this..

I'm actually crying right now of how upset and heartbroken I am.. And she's just licking me all innocently. To me it seems like that fingernail has been twisted to the side or something, it's not even clean it has those yellow things on it as if it was rotten or something.. Her other paw doesn't have a stuck out nail like that and it doesn't even hurt her when I press on it but.. How is this even possible.. What kind of cruel thing happened to her as a kit that resulted in this... What can I even do for her now.. I feel so bad that it really hurts.. My poor little angel.. First was her ear, couldn't get any happier to see it recovering, now this...How can I fix this.. It's so devastating and heartbreaking.. and makes me feel like a horrible owner that I almost regret being one.

It almost looks like the dew claw is just growing at a funny angle? It could just be that she has some sort of abnormality that makes it grow that way, if she isn’t flinching when you touch it that’s a great sign! I can’t see properly on the photo but you can always take her to a vet, and if it is a problem they can easily remove the dew claw. Please don’t be sad! This isn’t your fault and it doesn’t sound like it is bothering her at all! You’re a great owner for doing what you can to help :)

I really don't know.. Yes, it doesn't hurt her at all when I touch it or apply pressure to it but it could be just because it's like a dead portion of her claw or something.. I will surely work harder to find a rabbit savvy vet more now. My parents are already giving me the "I told you so" lecture for why I shouldn't get a pet since it gives me more depression than it should .. But in my defense, it's only because I feel hugely responsible for my pets that I want them to live a happy healthy life.. Thank you for reassuring me, I was getting anxious and she just kept staring at me wondering why I was so sad.. T_T

If it’s dead then that’s fine, she doesn’t need that claw - my bunny recently got her dew claw torn off and it hasn’t grown back and she’s absolutely fine. What country are you in? There is a thread on here about finding a good rabbit savvy vet.
It’s good you feel a lot of responsibility for them, and better to be over cautious than something serious does happen.. if she isn’t in pain and can carry on doing what she wants to do then I wouldn’t worry at all :) but if you are worried about her catching it or that it might cause pain at some point then take her to a vet and they can look at it properly :)
Good luck, and don’t hesitate to post again, we can keep reassuring you!

A few days ago I posted about something that was in her ear and I think you responded. I also think I stated there that I was from Iraq and that we hardly have vets to begin with and they're just concerned with dogs and cats because they're the common pets and are expensive unlike bunnies who almost no one takes for a pet unfortunately. So I can't find vets who are for rabbits .. But I'll keep looking.

Oh I’m sorry yes I didn’t link the two together! Even if they don’t like rabbits they will still know how to treat simple things like this, and if you’re willing to pay then why should they care that it’s a rabbit rather than a dog.. I wish I could help more, and it just be frustrating for you.

Yes, that's true. However I'm consulting a good vet for now to take his opinion on the matter, he's a kind one towards cats and dogs and he must have some knowledge about such small things since he already performs much bigger operations on the other animals. Thank you so much for your help though, I truly appreciate it, it calmed me down. <3

Yes, hopefully he will apply that knowledge and passion to your rabbit :) no problem, any time!

It's just a dewclaw growing at a bad angle. Not really a big deal as long as you don't also have crusting of the skin around the nail bed. But because the dew claw is sticking out, it will be best to keep it trimmed so there isn't a sharp point sticking out(which in the picture it's pretty pointy and does need trimming). Just make sure to not trim into the quick(pink part of the nail). I leave about 1/16th-1/8th of the white part of the nail next to the pink, so I don't cut too close and risk it bleeding. If you do happen to cut too close and it bleeds a bit, just have cornstarch handy to put a bit on the end of the nail to help the bleeding stop.

If' you've never trimmed nails before, they need to be done about every 6-8 weeks. You should be able to find you tube videos showing how to do it.

Actually, being in Iraq you probably won't be able to find a vet experienced with treating rabbits because of rabbits not being a common pet there. And you have to be careful about just seeing any vet as an inexperienced vet could actually do more harm than good for your bunny. Some medications that are common to give to cats and dogs can actually be deadly if given to a rabbit. That's why it's so important to find a vet experienced with rabbits. Though if it's just to help trim nails, any decent vet should be able to help with that if you need it.

Thanks for your reply, yes unfortunately I just have to deal with the fact that my poor bunny was either hurt when was a baby or born with it. So far I haven't trimmed them yet because I can't seem to find the animal nail clippers for them. Yes, I watched many videos and read many threads about health and such related to bunnies before getting Cloudy, I think I'd be confident trimming the nails once I do.
Thank you for your reply once again, I appreciate it. <3

You can use human nail clippers, or you might need to use toenail clippers depending on how thick the nails are. Those tiny sharp pinprick nails that babies get, you just basically snip a little bit off the end so it's not sharp like a needle anymore.

You should only use human clippers on a baby rabbit and only to trim off the very end like jbun said - once she is bigger it is recommended to use proper animal clippers as the flat shape of human clippers can cause splits in the nail and hurt more because they squash the surrounding nailbed more.

So, I was going to do just that as you guys recommended, I grabbed one of my newest sharpest clippers, sat Cloudy down, pet her and held her paw out, I noticed that the claw wasn't as pointed out as it was and was like.. More downwards, and there seemed to be some black blood at the base of it. I still wanted to clip just the very tip and as soon as I touched it, she pulled her paw away the claw came out within the clippers.

No excessive blood came out, just a teeny tiny dot and she kept licking it off but I can still feel something hard from the side of her paw, maybe the rest of the claw?
I wanted to put corn starch on it but there wasn't any bleeding and she seemed normal, went ahead and ate then came and played and laid down.. Anything I should be cautious of or should do?

Maybe it had started to break off before you tried clipping it and that's why it was at a different angle. I'm surprised it didn't bleed but glad it didn't. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't start bleeding and that everything else seems alright.

Yeah, so was I, it didn't bleed at all, just a small dot of blood like it was some scratch or something and she licked it off and that was it, she seems happy and in a good mood today but I'm still watching her just in case. I hope it doesn't grow back out in a wrong angle again or something..
