I have her feed bowl in her litterbox, I thought that since they like to poop and eat hay, why not pellets? Well, she likes to spill them everywhere and pee on them. x.x; Should I just put her bowl on the tile floor and clean any mess? I don't have a problem with that, I just want what her preference would be. :)

I finally weaned her off of the icky Walmart stuff and onto Sunscription: Vita Prima

Is this a good food? I'm going to to switch her to a feed store pellet once I get paid, but for now would this be OK? Its 17% protein and 1% calcium.

For a growing Flemish Giant, 7-weeks, is this alright? Its only going to be for 2 weeks, then the week when I switch to the high quality feed. It's straight pellet with a few alfalfa stems in there, a few dried papayas. It also is for young rabbits. SO EXPENSIVE, it was this, or organic bunny food from oxbow, but it wasn't for young buns. x.x; They didn't have a good selection sadly.

Her sleeping this morning. x) Right next to our bed. She even slept at our feet for a little. Only two pellets in the morning. XD

Personally I find that my buns don't make too much of a mess with their veggies, water, and pellet away from their litterbox. They will poop around the area but never pee... So put the food away from the litter box in its own area, and try to get something heavier bottomed.

Speaking of her bowl - Can she get into it well enough? Might be she can't quite reach the pellets. And you can easily make the bowl heavier by sticking weights/whatever to the bottom of it if there's space.

I had this problem too... the morning after I got him I came down and his cage was a MESS! Spilt his water, pellets, litter, and lettuce all over... took me a good half hour to get it all cleaned up. :p

I went out to Petsmart that day and got him new bowls. Not sure if you have one of those near you, but I got some that have a clamp onto the cage. They're actually meant for dogs, but they've worked perfectly! Now I leave his plastic bowls in there because he enjoys them as a toy.

Derby's dishes are all weighed. That is why he has larger dog dishes. He poos when he eats, always has so I just clean up the poop. Never pees when eating pellets. Rabbits should be on a good quality alfalfa pellet until they are 6 months, especially the bigger breeds so that they grow properly. Good info in the library on the forum, under pellets. I feed oxbow right now. At 5 months start weaning them off the alfafa onto timothy pellets. 1/2 and 1/2, then 1 to 3 etc until you are straight timothy pellets.

About taking her off of alfalfa at 5 months, I read large breeds need to stay on till 7 months. Because she needs more as she is going to get bigger then an average bunbun.

The bigger ones have a longer growth period. The small buns are done at 6 months, but the bigger ones go to 1 year or more. We have attached food dishes for our bigger buns and also use the heavier crocks. Serena is 18+ pounds, so she can tip anything she wants to.

I broke down and got murphy a raised food bowl you hook to side of cage. Lol..she shoves her nose in the bowl and swishes her head back and forth! Pellets fly!!

I bought in 3 different sizes, all ceramic. As I recall, the smaller ones were meant for mice or lizards or whatever. I have 2 of each size & use the size that's appropriate for what I'm giving her.

I feed 18% to all my show animals, pregnant/nursing does, and youngsters. The older bucks get 15%. As for the food dishes, good luck. I have some with crocks and some with hanging feeders. No matter what, someone's spilling or pushing pellets out.

Thump is a 4 month flemmish giant. I bought him a metal rabbit feeder that I hang on the side of his cage. I did have a ceramic dog bowl that was large but he would sit in it and eat. He would poop and pee in it. The metal feeder is hung right above his litter box so when he poops it is in the litter box as well as his peeing. The ceramic dog bowl is heavy and he has never knocked it over. It now holds his water but he also has a water bottle so that if he ever would knock the bowl over he won't go thirsty.

He has a hay rack away from his litter box. I have noticed that he doews poop while eating pellets but doesn't when eating hay. I can leave toilet paper rolls stuffed with hay in his room and he does not poop on the floor. He also will sit on my lap and eat hayfrom my hand when I bring it in fresh and he doesn't poop on me.

Also, I got metal dish and a ceramic one because I was afraid he would chew anything plastic. I'm glad I did since he will chew plastic.

A lot of it is trial & error because different things work with different rabbits.

All plastics aren't alike, so if they chew on something made with soft plastic they may not on something made of hard plastic.

I'm glad I found this thread because I am having the same problem with my new little girl. She digs and digs in her (ceramic) food dish and the pellets go everywhere! She also likes to stand in her water bowl while she drinks, so her wet feet track water all over her pen. Oye!

I suggest the ones you attach to the sides of the cage. I may have to try that too...

I tried a low bowl with my male, he peed and poop in his pellets. I tried a raised bowl, he just hops in it and pee's and poops in it while eating.......my next thing to do is just get a pellet dispenser kinda like the hay dispensers, maybe then he won't pee or poop in his pellets..lol

My bunnies dig all their food out of their bowls and tip all their bowls up, but it's fine because they still eat it of the floor.. i actually think they like eating it of the floor more than from a bowl because they just won't eat eat out of a bowl! But it doesn't bother me because it's soon all hoovered up :)

Heavy cermanic bowls do wonders. Make sure they are on ground level if you have more than one level cage. I had to buy Oreo a heavy duty one because she's Super Rabbit and can knock any and all bowls down. lol.
