My little princess, Twix has been suffering intermitently with mushy/runny cecals (although I have to admit to noticing no smell). After reading up on the health section, I am certain in it caused by her diet and eating too many pellets/food. She definately gets a sticky bottom if she has the smallest amount of fruit/veg and also when she gets stressed.

I moved my buns in together 2 days ago, so the 1st night I expected runny cecals and that what I got. This morning, more of the same. What I am woried about is that Twix is eating not only her portion of pellets, but Cookies too. There is a good supply of timothy hay in the cage for Twix, but she doesn't seem as intested in it as the bedding hay :?. I would take the pellets out all together until her gut settles, but Cookie doesn't eat any hay at all.

What is the best way to work around this problem? I can't see a way to stop Twix from eating Cookies pellets

A couple of my bunnies have problems with excess or mushy cecals due to too much protein in their diet.
Treating them only lasted for as long as the treatment did, so a diet change was necessary.
I gradually switched them over from a diet of all alfalfa-based pellets to one that is half alfalfa, half timothy, and higher in fiber. I've had very good results.

It also seems like these same bunnies are more prone to runny/soft, poops/cecals after eating greens. I started giving them only romaine, and only once or twice a week, and that seems to have helped.

I use alfalfa-based Purina Complete Blend (green bag), 16% protein
&
timothy-based Kaytee Timothy Complete, 12% protein

***I'll have to check the fiber and edit this post***

One of mine had this problem.

I had to stop giving him lettuce altogether and take away all his treats (oats, fruit, shredded wheat). He only gets cilantro and/or parsley at veggie time.

He only gets 1/4 cup of pellets per day so he eats LOTS more hay now and the problem has cleared up.

I still give mine oats, but I cut way back on the amount.

What pellets does sheeat? Ifshe iseating high protein ones that could be the problem.I used to have my two on Burgess excel but they had excess ceacels so i changed them over to science selective which has lower protein and they haven't had any since. Might be worth a try to change her to SS and see if that helps.:)

Also, don't worry if she's not eating timothy hay, as long as she is eating some hay, my two love meadow hay and oat grass but wont touch timothy hay.:?
