I have another question. If a rabbit has stasis can guineapigs contract them from a rabbit. My thing is that guinea pig cages areright above sweetpea and our chinnie is just not far from them too.

What does papaya tablets do for the buns. I got some but never used it yet. How often do I give SweetPea the tablets.
*BUMP*

GI stasis is not contagious.

Papaya tablets are good for the digestive tract...they keep things moving along.

DaisyNbuster i use that super rabbit exel stufas my vets recommended it to me when i first got my bunnies. It'sreally good. I didn't know it had alot of fibre?

By the way what are the sighns of GI statis? I've heard alot of peopletalking about their bunnys getting it but i'm still not sure extactlywhat it is. Thanks.:)

Signs of GI Stasis: loss of appetite;little to no defecation; diarreah combined with small droppingssometimes including "strings of pearls" (fur connecting droppings);little to no interest in favorite treats; swollen abdomen; lethargy

If your rabbit has any of these signs, you should see a veterinarianIMMEDIATELY. GI is a silent and quick killer.

How old is yourbunny?
3 months on the 3 of sept
She is too young yet to get papaya or any other treats. Formy 3-month-old, I give her a little parsley about every other day andwatch her stool carefully to make sure she doesn't getdiarreah. I too have to wait until Pristine reaches 6 monthsbefore I can start intoducing the "better" treats.;) I wouldn't worry too much about GI stasis at this point, just make sure that he/she gets plenty of timothy hay and alfalfapellets.

No problem at all. So around 6 mos or so She can start takingthem. See I have had buns but never realized about Gi stasis until now.I don't want sweetpea to have it cause this is the time of the year andshe will be molting by thanksgiving and christmas.

I use papaya as a treat for Iszy. Igive her one or two tabletsa week just to keep thingsmoving...and she LOVES them. Yes, just wait until she reaches6 months and then you can start introducing new things. Don'tgive her too many treats though. ;)

Since she's so young, if you're going to giveher a treat I would stick to something more healthy likeparsley. Cherrios are pretty much a junk food that should begiven in adulthood. Try some parsley....just a little at atime.

And it's just so hard to resist that face whenthey're begging...I know.It'sjustpathetic. lol:disgust:

GI Stasis is a virus and can be passed from one rabbit to another a another if the rabbit's immune system is weak.

Don't know about guinea pigs contracting it.

(Lissa, thank you for pointing me to this thread.)
