Just a reminder to all to make sure you brush your rabbits and have the hay loaded up or plan to added fiber to their diet. Canned pumpkin is a great source of fiber with little sugar in it.

In New England, Fall will be here in a couple of weeks and that's when the virus can start to go around.

Be sure to be careful with your whole herd if one rabbit runs into Stasis because it is a virus. If you don't have NutriCal on hand, it'd be a good idea to pick some up. If one runs into trouble, I give a bit to all my rabbits to give an extra kick to their immune systems.

Peace in your heart,
and Poop in your pans. :)

Agood way to get the fur off moulting rabbits is to vacuum them.

Most of my bunnies tolerate the wet vac and it really gets the dead

furoff. Plus it is not flying everywhere.

Another tip is using a lint brush. The kind that you peel the paper

off when it is not sticky anymore. It works well on bunnies with shorter

fur like my mini-rex.

:wave:Hi Roger! For some odd reasonthe only rabbit I can see tolerating theVaccume is the English Lop sheis used to loud rude noises. Ifear the others would fall overin a blind panic if I tried that, Seems all my wooledbrats with the exception of theEnglish are very noise sensative, heck the fan gets too loudand their thumping and runningaround like crazed buns .

I saw that Trick with Rex's inActon I was facinated watchingthe Girl using it , Firstshe would roll it down her pantleg to get most ofthe vicious sticky off then goto work on Her Rabbits, they truely seemed to enjoyit and I enjoyed watching herwork , Gave me good ideas formy Standards. And the Dollar Tree ,stores carry the purse size ones, just small enough for smallbunnies too .

BTW Roger I cansense you dont like tobrag! BUT Bragging Rights are inorder here , You shouldpost Your wins at theActon show !:blueribbon:

questions:

if statis is a virus, does anyone know how it get transmitted?

could it also randomly develop?

if both my rabbits are strictly indoor, do they have a lower chance of GI stasis?

with great thanks to the forum members, i have leaned to watch for allthe signs as well as introduce new food to my bunnies, like hay, pumpkin and oats. But i am of course, terrified, of stasis attacking mybabies.

Gypsy, the 4V Dust Busterer I have is very quiet and has thisnice brush attachment to clean lamp shades.....but instead it workedwonders when Freddy went through his molt ... the bristles reallyhelped "pick up" the loose hair while the vaccuum got rid of it ...andthe bristles are soft i rubbed them on my own skin first

:shock2:

What's this about a Win???

Stasis is a virus and can be passed on from one rabbit to another ifimmune systems are weak. I give all my rabbits a dose of NutriCal whenone is effected. The NutriCal is known to boost your rabbit's immunesystem, it has laxatone in it to help it go to the bathroom, itstimulates their appetite, and provides nutrients and vitaminsnecessary if a rabbit goes off it's feed.

Anything can trigger it if your rabbit's immune system is down and itattacks particularly in the spring and fall. Indoor rabbits are just asvulnerable as outdoor rabbits. Some rabbits are more sensitive to itthan others. Changing of food, seasons, a molt, or stress can send anyrabbit into stasis.

Make sure your rabbit's appetite stays as it is, be careful of smallersize stools. A rabbit's poop will tell you a lot about how the rabbit'ssystem is working.
With fall being a popular molting time, you want to make sure therabbit's intestinal system keeps moving. Hay is highly recommended tohelp 'scrape' the walls of their intestines of any hair that is missed.

If you see signs of their stools going down in size and becoming darker, you should be concerned.

thanks Carolyn!

Iam having a difficult time with Rue as i am switching herfood from Bonanza to plain pellets. i am doing it slowly, and mixinglike Freddysmum said. at one time her poops did look a little small, but after introducing hay theygot better, and after somepumpkin, they are excellent!

(Changing food is sooo hard. Rue now has other good(healthy)things to eat, so she is even more spare abouteating her pellets. and when she hears a treat bag opened she goesnuts. she actually put her paws up on the cage, and sticks her mouthright out in anticipation. she's a junk food addict!)

thanks again,

Nicole

If you see signs of their stools going down in size and becoming darker, you should be concerned.

I'd also be concerned if their poops start looking like "strings ofpearls". You know, poops all strung together byfur. Means they are ingesting a lot of their own fur and itcould "gum up the works". I do think the does are more proneto it, they seem to do more grooming around this time ofyear. The NutriCal works good for this too.

I have another question. If a rabbit has stasiscan guinea pigs contract them from a rabbit. My thing is that guineapig cages are right above sweetpea and our chinnie is just not far fromthem too.

What does papaya tablets do for the buns. I got some but never used it yet. How often do I give SweetPea the tablets.

I can see some breeds not liking the vacuum. With these you can try

taking your bun outside and blowing the fur off with a blowdryer set on

cool setting. When I go to a show all the angora breeder are blowing out

their rabbits. You should see the fur fly. You just don't want to be

down wind LOL.

I had the pleasure of meeting Gypsy at the Acton show. She is a very

nice lady with a very nice family. I will post the wins this time LOL.

I breed and show mini-rex in black, castor, chocolate, lilac, and now red.

I have had rabbits for about a year now, and have shown since February.

Best of Variety-black with a home-bred doe who is 5 months old.

She has gotten 4 GC legs in 4 shows one a BOB win.

Best black junior buck, best and second best black junior doe, best castor

senior buck and doe, second and third castor jr doe, and best chocolate

junior doe.

Enough bragging LOL

Since my little scare with Daisy a month or toback I've been extra vigilant to make surethey have plenty ofhay. The only thing that has been worrying me is Snowy's hay fever. Itis quite bad. If he comes into contact with it whatsoever his eyes areterrible. Now the thing I am asking myself is... Is it better to have abun with hay fever or a bun withGI stasis? I would say a bunwith hay fever myself. What do you guys think?

I have found it almost impossible to get canned pumpkin over here too which is a pain.

Luckily I've managed to find a good feed that the fibre isalmost100% higher then they used to be on. For people in UK Iheard you mentionSupa RabbitExcel and I managed to get some from a pet shop that I don'tnormally go to.

Congratulations on the wins Roger L:blueribbon:
