With a heavy heart, I am here to announce that Spook has passed away . Spook my 6 week old rescue boy, along with his sister.
Spook passed away last night around 10:30pm. I went into the animal room to take pictures of him and his sister and give them individual play time. Spook was tucked up into a "rat ball" position inside his little hidey box.
I pulled him out and he was cold and his breathing was very shallow. He had dropped a lot of body weight since the morning, it seemed. He felt skin in bones, which he wasn't that morning.
I brought him into the living room and sat on the floor with him. I pulled out the heating pad and set it onto low and put him on it, wrapped up in a fleece blanket. I tried to syringe him water and chocolate Ensure, but he wouldn't take any. I sat with him on the floor for about 20 minutes. He passed away while I ran to the kitchen for a minute .
I'm very sad, as I don't know what caused his death. It could have been pneumonia (ask I was told by a friend, it has no warning signs). I just don't know. Maybe he was depressed because he was living alone because I was waiting for him to get just a bit bigger, then have him neutered and put in with the boys? Maybe he wasn't drinking enough water? He had a water bowl and bottle. Lots of food in his cage, too.
We buried him inside a hammock, which we put inside his cardboard hidey box.
Rest well, Spook . We only knew each other for about 2 short weeks. Your life was too short, it is not fair that you were taken away so young. I wish there was more I could have done, but you were too far gone. You had no life left in your eyes. I had to let you pass peacefully at home, rather than on a cold table at the vet's office. I hope you are up there visiting with our kitten, Zaide, who we just lost to sudden death on October 1st. I also hope you are up there pop-corning and having a blast with Leonidas, who passed away a couple of months ago.
