Sore Hocks Treatment

Since Theo moved inside I have noticed that the fur on his feet was getting thinner and his hocks were turning red. I trimmed his nails, weighed him, and added new flooring options to my room, but nothing has seemed to help. The carpet in my room is a very short and scratchy carpet (which I HATE) but I do not have the money to replace it with something nicer. The sores have continued to get worse to the point that he has a vet appointment tomorrow. That being said, I wanted to know if there is anything else I can do before he goes. I am going to get some baby socks tomorrow and put coconut oil on the sores to see if that helps.
Any help with flooring ideas would be amazing! My room is HUGE so it takes a lot of rugs to completely cover the carpet. I currently have 4 different cotton rugs, puzzle mats, a memory foam mat, and hardwood in my room seeing if that helps. I have heard to use cardboard, but he eats cardboard and I don't want him to get a blockage.

If he is good with the litter tray, put some duvets or quilts or soft mattress toppers on the floor and put soft blankets on top. That allows the nails to sink in so there is less pressure on the hocks. The pics don't look too bad. I wouldn't use socks at this stage. Put a little bit of Neosporin without pain relief on the hocks. Rub it in so it gets absorbed and then distract with a treat so he doesn't lick it too much.

Thank you! I ended up having to reschedule the appointment (so now it is Wednesday) because I had to work an extra hour today. At least now I have extra money to pay for this vet trip!

I can also check with our friend since she has rabbits and find out if she would use it on her own rabbits.

You need some ointment with antibiotics. I know the Neosporin without pain relief is safe. Yeah, they hate having their feet touched, not much fun doing this. Let us know what the vet says.

The vet appointment was amazing! Everyone loved him and he loved everyone! He got lots of compliments from the people in the waiting room (since my mom was late picking me up Theo got to meet all the other pet lovers). The vet said Theo is in perfect health except for his feet. She also said that I caught this super early which is very good so I can keep it from getting worse. They didn't send me home with any medicine since they said he doesn't need anything except for super soft flooring. I am going to have to confine him to a playpen with puzzle mats and cotton rugs until his feet heal He is going to kill me!

He is still mad at me because of the trip, but he should forgive me by tomorrow.

Do you have any fleece you can lay on the floor? That seems to work. I noticed Xiao Wu was about to start getting sore hocks from the concrete at the shelter but it healed nicely after we got her.
