Hi,
I just noticed these brown skin patches on my bunnies skin. It’s mostly on his lower back. I don’t know what it is, is it because of combing him or is it something worse like mites or lice. I’m worried, so do I take him to the vet or he will be alright in a few days time? he is behaving totally normal, jumping around eating and nipping my feet. He is 9months old and a tortoise Dutch bunny.
They are not smelly or flaky, just brown patches where as other place his skin is link and healthy clear or any brown patches.

I think this could be your rabbits skin. Nova is black and white and her sin also is black and white. Since your bunny is brown and white this may be the case. Hope this helps

That's normal. He is starting to molt. Those dark patches are where the new fur is going to come in first; it will spread over the whole body and grow longer to replace his old coat as it falls out. (edit: or, if he has been near other rabbits recently, it might be that he had a few bites of fur taken out of him, and that fur is growing to replace that, not a full molt. But either way, its where new fur is growing in)

Hey guys thanks for your responses. I didn’t get any notification about these replies so I just saw them. Turns out you guys are spot on, it is his new fur coming in. He doesn’t socialise with other bunnies so no chances of mites. Only trips to the vet and just recently for a groom. He is well, no skin problems so far.
Thank you for your replies
