My 12 year old daughters beloved Mini Rex, who’s name is Rex , is dragging hind legs & periodically, shaking his head. I’m panicking a bit here.

You need to go to an exotics vet or an emergency vet. Any kind of paralysis is an emergency in rabbits and what you are discussing sounds like it could be e.cunnunculi, with the head shaking and paralysis, which is fatal if left untreated. Regardless of diagnoses, you have an emergency requiring a vet on your hands.

There are many possible reasons a rabbit can lose the use of the back legs, including, but not limited to

• trauma to the spine, pelvis, or limbs
• spondylosis/osteoarthritis of the spine or pelvis
• degenerated, damaged, or ruptured vertebral discs
• the microsporidian parasite, Encephalitozoon cuniculi
• bacterial infection
• the roundworm parasite Baylisascaris procyoni
• general weakness associated with illness

How’d the appointment go?

Hello, Rex’s appointment went as well as possible. We know He’s not completely paralyzed ,because he reacted to the vet pinching his back foot . So he’s being treated for having a bulged disc , as of now .The vet prescribed an antibiotic & an anti inflammatory. We also had him tested for e. Cuniculi, the results will take 7-10 days. I Hope n pray that it’s negative. Scheduled a recheck for December 10 th. Thank you for asking & thank you , to everyone who took the time to offer thier help and answer my post . I truly appreciate it .
